I've been popping in and out of here for years since I was a student, maybe 6 yrs. There used to be a younger guy who worked there who super enthusiastic, friendly, and once I fell in love with a super fancy pair of white and black Italian leather boots. I looked at the price and it was a bit much tbh for a resale price and I was not super flush on money (my parents didn't support me in school) and said darn anyway you can hold these, I can put some $ down and come back on payday as I have to have em. And he said well what would make it work for you? He took about 10% off and said they were made for me. I was so happy and that went a long way.
Now? He no longer works there, the vibes are REALLY off. There's a lady who's more middle aged, maybe the owner? She has a rude attitude and also stares at you while you shop. I saw a pair of boots there the other day, said welp they're size 8, usually I'm an 8 or an 8.5 but I want to try to be safe. She begrudgingly brought the other side of pair out. I hemmed n hawed, because they were just a tad too tight. She was very pushy and was like "I thought you said you were a size 8? Those are size 8!" Was so taken aback and felt so awkward, I said yes I'm between sizes actually so I'm so torn, these are on smaller side. She said "well they'll stretch out." (They were already very worn in). She was standing right there hawking me. I just bought them honestly in a hurry as I was flustered. They were $85, for leather fringe boots probably from the 80s, nice, but honestly pretty worn. I nowhave them and they hurt my feet, but I know taking them back for store credit won't be an option or they'd offer me pennies for what I paid for them. Went in there one more time the other week, and she was working, staring as usual. I tried on one dress which said it was a size 4 (which I am) but I tried it on and someone wearing it previously must have had a bbL because the butt area was stretched out like the size of two basketballs. I looked for a return rack and they didn't have, just said on a sign to bring all unwanted merchandise back to front. She was away from the front so I patiently waited just til she had my attention and said sorry this didn't work out today just wanted to leave here as sign said, thank you though! She looked grumpily my way. Didn't say anything. Idk if I should have just left them there without her seeing or what. Oh, and the other item when I tried it on had a huge rip in it. Idk how someone would miss it if they do return clothing to racks for someone l, but of course I felt too nervous to point it out to her because she'd probably think I did it.
Honestly I get retail work is tough, maybe she hates her life, but multiple times now she just makes me want to leave as soon as possible. But retail staff should create a warm and welcoming environment, maybe have a little ounce of passion for fashion and care. I actually work in customer service and sales myself, and everyone has bad days, but her energy she brings to store turns others away I'm sure of it.
Also, things are very overpriced (some designer clothes are $300+ for not that cute of stuff) ...I can understand if a piece was originally $1k that maybeeee $300 could be justified but that is not the case. Only about a 10-15% markdown from original retail, with some obvious wear and not even unique vintage finds like they used to have, just a few years ago older line it was from, that's going to be too outdated to be back in fashion now just yet, not a timeless classic..and as other reviewers have said, for ten year old h&m poor quality stuff you can expect $18-30. Quality and selection has gone down drastically. Pricing seems all...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt is my fault but I want to put this out as a warning. I purchased some scarves that I assumed were all priced similarly. I did not carefully check the prices and that is my responsibility. The sales woman was talking to me almost constantly as if she was in a high pressure sales environment and she notice I was also distracted by my son.
This is a posting about this store that I have thought about carefully and have not posted impulsively, and as such, it is a buyer-beware notice due to the usual sales technique which I do not often see on State Street and I would call overtly aggressive and dishonest.
The woman is the manager and buyer for the store and definitely utilized a sales technique that I fell for so it is my doing as well. She was distracting me and even pulling my phone to the Apple Pay while also telling me that another buyer regularly comes in to buy the scarves up so it is rare that she still had these scarves for sale. I usually am not fooled by this overt techniques but I was an easy mark on this graduation weekend. āŗļø. She even coos, āIāll give you a 10% discount on the one scarf!ā
When I staggered out, I noticed the total was almost $100 for three scarves, and I balked and returned to the store. I said I needed to not buy the two expensive scarves. One was a modern one made in China and the other was a misprinted one. At that point she pointed out a minuscule sign inked on a placemat on the counter, āAll Sales Finalā. I meekly left but felt rushed into the sale. My fault but caveat emptor (buyer beware!) for sure. This error reflects on me poorly but also on her somewhat distracting and deceptive style of sales on a student and historically...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went to ReThreads for the first time today and was very impressed. I sold some clothes and used the money given to buy new ones. They are very open-book in how they operate the transaction. They tell you what they will sell it for and offer you 40% if you take in-store credit and 25% if you want cash. The prices they offered for everything was also very fair (you can see the item by item break down before completing the transaction). There were two items they rejected; one was a pair of shorts and the other a jacket that was notably dirty and I should have washed before hand. They made it very clear why the items were rejected and let me know they'd be buying shorts in a few months come spring.
Overall, the customer service I received was top notch, and this coming from someone who works in the industry. They were incredibly friendly, helpful, and direct. The items I bought were both in good condition and fair priced.
I recommend this place for buying and selling. I'm sorry that other people had negative experiences but none of what they mentioned was part of mine. In fact, I read those reviews before hesitantly going for a first time and was pleased in...
