Last year was great, I went often and had a blast. This year, not so much... there are too many young (mostly male) hot dogs practicing their ice-destroying hockey stops and other misbehavior. This makes for a nerve-wracking environment because they love to swoop in and stop right in front of people. And the last time I went (mid-October), the ice was in just dreadful condition due to the uncontrolled craziness. Hockey stops create deep grooves in the ice, usually perpendicular to the boards. It's a serious hazard when your skate catches in them.
In my experience, most public rinks don't allow hockey tricks during open skating time. It's especially important to keep things polite here because of the many children and beginners using the facility.
I'm a wobbly adult beginner with a season pass. I enjoy skating, and it's a terrific facility, but they need to clean up their act a bit. I really hope it's just growing pains.
5 stars for the facility, 3 stars for the Wild West...

I live in bishop and drove two hours round trip twice a week all winter to skate here. I am thrilled they added the figure skating specific session and it was incredible to have a safe, relaxing space to practice my favorite activity. Juli Ann was a wonderful instructor and I feel like my skating improved so...

Than they break for 30 minutes to run the zamboni. We will be back for sure. Bring drinks and snacks as there is...
