I finally got in to the Aldi in Manchester yesterday with my sister. Aldi is not new to me, I lived in Rural Wisconsin for 20 years, and shopped at Aldi all the time. I'm thrilled to see it here.
The cost of food out here is ridiculous, since I have been here, my grocery bill has doubled and is out of control for just 2 people because I live North of Concord and there are no Aldi up here. So, I've had to shop at Market Basket and Hannaford.
A lot of people out here don't understand the concept of Aldi. It's designed to be a self serve store on purpose. You save so much more money shopping here and it's significantly less expensive than the other alternatives.
What astonishes me are the negative reviews of this place from pure ignorance of people who somehow feel they're entitled and this place is beneath them.
Omg! A quarter to unlock a shopping cart is the end of the world.... LOL. I would rather pay a quarter for my shopping cart than to pay the extra cost at MB to pay the extra employee who has to go out and round up all the carts in the parking lot and bring them back because there are no carts to get inside, or chase down all the carts that freely blow around, take up parking spaces and run into your car and do damage because the customer was too lazy to bring the cart back after shopping. I bring my cart back and Omg! I got my quarter back because I put it back where I got it from. I see people complaining about the employee who is throwing the food in the cart at checkout. It isn't the Aldi store to blame, but the employee themselves, who by the way is also from NH. Maybe, the store manager just needs to remind the employee to use some finesse. They are there to check you out, not throw your food rudely. Trust me, that employee didn't learn to be rude from working at Aldi, they were rude before they got hired.
I would rather bag my own groceries. 99% of the time, I have to stand out in the parking lot and rearrange my groceries in the MB parking lot because if I don't, by the time I get home, my bread is squished beyond recognition or my eggs are broken because of the way they bagged it.
Are you that insulted that you have to furnish or buy your own bag? Wow, Really? You just saved a lot of money and you don't understand why you should pay for your own bag? They are .06 cents so 7 of them is .42 cents. Get a grip... better yet, recycle the 14 plastic bags you just threw in the trash.
The food there is not below par, there is nothing wrong with the food. It tastes the same as the name brand or the store brand that you buy to save money. The only difference is the label and the price. What I bought yesterday at Aldi for 100.00, I would have easily spent 180.00 + for the same thing at MB.
They have the right concept, easy maintenance, low overhead, clean, nice variety, different suppliers, self serve all add up to huge savings at the check out, because that concept allows them to keep the prices lower than anybody out there so they can help everybody save money. The prices in the NH Aldi are the same exact prices as what I paid in the Wisconsin Aldi, which I love because I just cut my food bill in half. The entitlement that people feel they have because of just plain ignorance is mind blowing.
I'm gonna keep shopping at Aldi and spend my 300.00 + savings every month on something other than food, while you stand in line at MB and pay twice as much for the same thing that I just bought. Maybe, people are just afraid of the unknown because they don't have anything else to compare it to. It's easier to snub your nose than it is to open your mind and bag your own groceries... really? How sad, for you.
Open your mind, It's not that scary... First time shoppers... bring a quarter and bring your own bags or be prepared to spend .42 cents on buying them and leave your narrow little MB mind at home. You'll save so much more money that way...
Oh, and by the way... that delicious meal that you just ate at my house and went back for a second helping came...
Read moreAldi is still a good place to shop, but it's no longer amazing.
It stopped selling gallons of skim milk ( now just half gallons). It stopped having the lowest prices on milk & eggs. It never has the lowest prIces on apples. Its sale price today on green peppers is higher than the competition.
It's still the best place to find bargains on many items, but other stores often give it serious competition now, because they're jealous.
Now that Aldi has over 2000 stores in the U.S., it's trying less hard to get attention from low prices. It's become part of the establishment. Sad.
It's still my favorite place to shop, but my wife prefers Market Basket, which has lower prices on milk, eggs, tofu, and vegetables (fresh & frozen). Other stores (Hannaford, Shaw's, and Price Rite) often have amazing sales on a few items. L
Bottom line: yes, shop at Aldi (still the cheapest on many items), but also consider the...
Read moreAmazing how the same Manchester morons who have been hating on PriceRite for a year or two are now happily shopping at this place, which is literally the exact same concept, but smaller. All these Manchester babies were griping on the bus about paying for bags at PriceRite, but it's ok at aldi. Both stores have limited selection, except PriceRite has like triple what aldi has. Prices are competitive between the two, and cheaper than everywhere else. Despite this, PriceRite is rated 3.5 and aldi is 4.5. and both stores are virtually empty at all times. While you can't find a parking space at market basket. I hate going there because i always have to dodge shoppers running around like toddlers thinking they own the whole store. I usually go to PriceRite since it's closer but if this is closer to you, it's the same thing and you won't have to Wade thru all the barbarians at mb...
