EDIT SAME DAY 03/21/2025: Someone from the store called to clarify that the next part that I was told would be another $75 is now free. Iām now back down to $425 total (including tax) for the repair. This is slightly better than I expected and I will continue to update this review once the repair is finally finished.
ORIGINAL POST: Do not go here and take your business elsewhere. My phone isn't even fixed yet, and somehow hundreds keep getting added onto my repair after an original quote of $320.
I showed up last week to 1) replace my phone battery, and 2) replace the back of the phone. The very first thing I said was that I needed my battery replaced, and that the phone itself said in its own system settings that it was in need of a battery replacement. Emphasis on the battery replacement was the very first thing I talked about with the employee. We talked about it for some time, the employee saw it, its been acknowledged, no problem. Then of course we move on to the phone needing the hardware replaced in the back, and they run me up $320 total for the repair, but I need to put down a non-refundable deposit of $160 for the parts. Okay, $320 total to fix my phone for the rest of the year is no problem, I need a phone for my business.
I get a call a day later that the part came in and the topic of the battery comes up again, where I'm told "Oh, if you need the battery replaced that's another $100". I say that I had already been quoted for the battery and I'm told by the person over the phone that they only quoted me for the back of the phone. First major red flag. I was pissed, but what choice did I have? They already made me put $160 down on a non-refundable deposit and I felt at this point this was still my most affordable option moving forward.
The next day I bring my phone in as early as possible for the repair, and I mention to the gentleman working that I came in to get my battery replaced, but was only quoted for one part of the work. He seemed dismayed about their misstep and he apologized on their behalf. I say it is what it is, and we move on with my day. I come back after the 3-4 hour estimate I'm given for the phone repair. When I get there, the same gentleman says he's been trying to contact me about the repair since something came up. I say I gave my email, and he says he contacted the number. The other day the same employee who did not decide to quote me for the battery also asked me for my info instead of a separate contact. At no point was that made clear when they were asking for information. So any attempted contact made to me failed because it went to my own number and my phone was in their shop. They did not email me, either. What they needed to tell me was not good news, either. Turns out, yet again, they would need to buy another part, which guess what? Costs more money.
So my original quote of $320 has now been run up to a wonderful $500+ if you're including tax. And my phone is still not fixed despite going in for an original diagnostic last week. I'm still waiting on the next part my phone needs and I'm wishing I never went to uBreakiFix at all. With the repair suddenly increasing more and more each visit/call, it just isn't worth it. If I had known they were going to do this I would've originally just purchased another phone and sold the broken one for the parts it has. This...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had high hopes with uBreakiFix. I went to the website hoping to schedule an appointment for an estimate for an iPad 11 Pro. The site was easy to use, but was unable to provide a ballpark repair, instead suggested I call. I called the Glastonbury, CT site and was greeted by the Simsbury office. I explained my situation and was told that I can show up on Thursday, anytime, for the estimate but the cost would be between $250 and $490 for my model, pending review by the tech. I wasn't told why there was such a large price range and had just assumed that the higher end pricing was for case repair. I showed up at 5:50 pm. There were three people waiting, not counting me, and the Tech, who was in the back. Speaking with the others, they have been waiting for some time.... tech comes out and starts speaking with one woman, tells her he managed to get her SIM card unstuck from her phone. She had no appointment and was a walk in, he told her it was no charge (how nice). The next person was being helped when the phone rang. He interrupted the person and answered the phone, assisted the person over the phone with thier issue, while we all stood there waiting.... he ends the call and goes back to the prior customer. She wanted to cancel her repair service as it's been too long waiting for the repair. She leaves, phone rings and we wait again.... Next guy's turn, he actually had an appointment and has been waiting an hour. Tells the Tech that he was told to come in as his new screen arrived and is ready to install. Tech goes to verify, comes back and says it'll take a couple days. Guy says it's his buisness phone and he was promised it would be done this evening.... Tech laments and says he'll stay later to finish. He puts it aside and the phone rang again and we both wait.... Tech comes back to me, I explain why I was there and he proceeds to give me a price quote.... $620! He realized he entered the wrong model number and the price is then $490.... before tax. Another tech arrived to help (for 15 minutes) and tried to sell me Assurance insurance...
Total time to get an estimate (and an unsolicited insurance quote) 1 hr 20 minutes. I left after politely telling them that I would like to get a second quote from elsewhere. Turns out the Tech is leaving the job so even if I were to follow through with the repair, I would've had to wait 3 to 5 weeks for the repair to be completed as they wouldn't know who would be doing the work. They also wanted my pass code for the device to ensure the screen worked... despite touching the screen and it activating.
So why 2-stars? Inability to properly schedule. Poor customer relations when ignoring the customer in front you for the phone call that could've been forwarded to another agent (like mine was when I called). Having unhappy staff with poor retention equates to lackluster performance and care of buisness.
I don't really fault the Tech, he was working alone, but the company itself was poorly managed.
They lost my business that day and I will seek my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place should be called "WeBreakYouPay." I brought a Samsung S20 5g there on 5/18/22 for a cracked front screen repair. The camera functioned perfectly on this phone before this repair; after the screen was replaced the front camera was inoperable and I had to download a Google camera app to use the rear camera. I had to wait until June 1 for an appointment to resolve this. The technician, who stated she was the manager when I asked to see one, insisted the phone had passed testing with flying colors, the camera was not damaged and I needed to resolve this with Samsung as this was a known Samsung issue. I told her it was an issue that did not arise until the front screen was replaced. She stated again that the the phone wouldn't have been released without testing showing all components were working. I told her I hadn't received any testing results and didn't check the camera when I picked it up because the only issue then was loss of consistent touch functionality at the very top of the screen, even though the crack was at the bottom of the screen. The touch functionality was restored but the front camera was destroyed. I spent $265 for a screen repair on this $850 phone that I bought in part due to the camera. I spent an hour on the phone with a Samsung representative who was incredulous that the company's authorized service shop didn't resolve this issue. The Samsung rep tests did not restore the front camera. A camera repair cost $400 or more. On top of this, when I first picked up the phone I waited an hour in the parking lot after finding an "out to lunch" sign on the door. Between the gas, my time spent traveling back and forth to this shop 30 minutes away and the cost of the repairs this so-called repair has set me back over $800. This is beyond outrageous and I will be pursuing...
