In short: Peter the manager of this store made me, and my soon to be fiancée, feel like we didn't know what we were talking about and were in the wrong for even considering diamond alternative and lost what would have likely been a $7500 sale.
In detail: Before today I would have rated them 5 / 5. Tammy was a joy to work with the first time we went in and they had a great selection of bands as well as a protection plan that is 2nd to none. After today and my interaction with Peter, not a chance.
For the last few months I've been doing a lot of research on real / lab grown diamonds as well as diamond alternatives such as CZ / Moisssanite and White Sapphire. Today we entered the store b/c they were doing a gem show and I wanted to see a Moisssanite side by side with a lab diamond. Unknowingly I approached Peter. I asked if I could see a Moiss next to a lab diamond and immediately he frowned and asked why I was considering Moiss. He did fetch the stone from the case and took us over to sit down and compare but then came a stream of either
Uneducated Statements that he pulled from who knows where or Outright lies to push us towards buying a diamond.
Most stores we had gone to had talked about pros and cons of each option and what they preferred, but never made us feel bad about our choice. Peter made us feel like we were dead wrong for leaning toward Moiss. As stated earlier I've done a lot of research regarding the stone so I asked him what cut it was (Diamond, crushed ice, or vintage) and who the maker was (there are a few well known manufacturers). He didn't know anything about the cut or maker of the stone but was happy to tell us how Moisssanite turns green with age and how the stone looked plasticy to him. The statement regarding Moiss turning green is objectively false and a quick google search will show you this. He was passing along incorrect information and doing his best to make us feel like we were making a mistake looking at Moiss. He also told us that at one point "for sure you are going to have to replace it in a few years" so that will kill whatever savings we get from buying it in the first place. (Again either un-educated rumor or a lie as most high end Moiss makers provide free lifetime trade ins if there is ever any issue with the stone) He further said 1 carat Moiss we were looking at was $1200 which again was either a lie, or the most overpriced Moiss in the state, as I was looking at top of the line certified 9x7 mm (2ct equivalent size) Moiss from Charles and Colvard (the oldest and most well known Moiss maker in the US) at another store for ~$980. At this point I was already peeved at the whole situation so was ready to get up and leave, but my gf still wanted to see the band she had looked the first time we visited, as it was stlil her fav she had seen in Mankato.
The sad part is doing a side by side comparison my GF did prefer the lab grown diamond to the Moiss quite a lot. However the statements Peter made that were outright wrong and the way he treated us made me not trust the store and not want to spend my money there. In the end she did look at the band and loved it still so I made a note of the brand and serial #. We were planning on purchasing the Gabriel and Co sandrine 2 tone White-Rose Gold tinted engagement ring and a 1.3 CT oval diamond of VS2 clarity to go in it that would have come to ~$7500, maybe a little less with the discount Tammy had offered us, but after today and with the info I grabbed I'll be ordering from another store in town.
Tammy thank you for your patience and sorry we wasted your time. Peter, you lost this sale because you Assumed that we didn't know what we were talking about and hadn't done hours of research prior to coming into your store Didn't know what you were talking about with regards to Moiss but did your best to talk down about it regardless (would have been better just saying "I don't know but I'll find out for you.") Made us feel like we were making a mistake considering a...
Read moreUpdate: Michelle from the “home office” took care of the issue. She looked my account up and said that she could see my warranty and all my inspection dates. She didn’t know why the Mankato office was stating otherwise. She said that she would call and speak with the manager herself. I got my ring back in perfect condition (about 11 weeks after drop off) fully covered under the warranty-she waved the small fee for prongs and “labor” (only diamonds are included in my warranty) Thank you Michelle. Mankato location/ manager is untrustworthy. Absolutely no morality. Purchased my wedding ring here SEVEN YEARS AGO with lifetime warranty. I’ve had it inspected regularly as required with the warranty. I have proof of it all. They inspected it and checked out fine the last time I brought it in then shorty after, a stone fell out. Sent it in and they called me after about 7 weeks to quote a price to repair. I stated that I have a warranty. They said that my account doesn’t show that I have a warranty. I asked for a call back from the manager-Peter Martin. I told him after he also told me that I don’t have a warranty that I had paperwork proving that my ring does have a warranty. He responded with “that warranty requires you to get it checked every 6 months” I stated that it has been and I also have proof of that. He stated that it didn’t matter that I had proof. He couldn’t do anything for me and I could get ahold of their home office because they are cracking down on what they are willing to cover. He said “I’m not paying for your bill” When I told him that he is the manager of the store that I purchased my ring from and that he should be willing to help me in this situation (instead of trying to lie and cheat me out of what we’ve paid for) he said that he would send paperwork showing that I’ve had my ring checked regularly (wow-thought he said that I hadn’t had it checked regularly or that there was no record of me having a warranty?) Had I not saved my paperwork, they would have screwed me over (they’re still trying to) I’m waiting for a call back from their home office. This was not a cheap ring. I expected better from this “professional looking” business. Unfortunately, I was wrong. Beware!!! I will definitely not be purchasing from Rogers and...
Read moreI was very pleased with the service that I got from Caiden, Corey and Madison at the Mankato, MN store, they were upfront with me and I never felt like they were just trying to get extra dollars, very pleased with the service and professionalism, they were kind and attentive. I did not like the manager I think his name was Jared, I could tell his wheels were turning in his head and it was not for my benefit, he took my one earring and kept it even though I asked for it and where it was, they assured me it was on the counter but why he felt he needed it I don’t know, I think it was Caiden or Corey that finally gave it back to me. Jared tried to sell me on man made diamonds in which clearly the other guys said that was not an option for me. At some point I was really tired of letting him try to figure out a way to help me and I just said this doesn’t seem right to me. We got down to a dollar amount but he had to order the diamonds in and wanted my earrings and the full price that we figured on, I just said that is not right, order the earrings and I will come in to see if they are what I want, Jared came down to keeping my earrings and 2 thousand down to order them in, I didn’t think a jewlery store should have a problem with this service as I have done several purchases before their time. I just said I need some time to think about this as it doesn’t seem right and Corey said before I left that he would get those earrings in and let me know when they arrived if I was still interested, I said yes I am, give me a call. That was on a Friday night and I think it was Wednesday when he called, I went in that evening but Corey had left, so Caiden helped me and purchased them, but not without doubt at first as the way I was treated by Jared, I was not fully confident and asked Caiden for them to be verified by their tool to convince me they were real diamonds all because of Jared. I really think you need a Manager like any of the three that helped me as I felt they were sincere and wanted to help me. And, I do love my...
