DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH fURNITURE FAIR! I DID, AND I REGRET IT. KET ME TELL YOU WHY:
In September of 2019, I ordered a sofa and chair made by Smith Brothers of Berne Inc. It was delivered to my home the following November of 2019.
The salesman knew nothing about furniture. He was clueless about fabric, furniture construction, and couldn't even get my phone number correct on the order. As a result, I wasn't aware of its arrival at Furniture Fair's warehouse until a month after its delivery.
I was supposed to get a 15% discount for cash, and I got it on one item, the least costly one! When I asked where my discount was on the other, the only response was, "it was a special order item?"
I wish that had been the extent of my issues with these items, but that wasn't the case. A few months after delivery I noticed red rashes on my body, and I felt itchy all over. In fact, I couldn't stop scratching my skin. I soon discovered I was allergic to the fabric covering the sofa and chair, The way I could sit in them was to cover them with thick blankets.
One day I saw what appeared to be vapors coming from the sofa. I suspect the vapor were outgassing of the toxic chemicals used to make the materials. They were likely responsible for my skin maladies.
When I moved the sofa around, it creaked betraying a lack of torsional rigidity. The salesman told me that the frame was made of kiln dried hardwoods screwed and glued together. Likely the frame is made of MDF wood held together with a few nails.
The sofa was miserable to sit on. I felt like I was sitting on a big bag of marshmellos. The seat cushions provided zero support. After a few minutes, I was so uncomfortable I had to get up. In short, this sofa was absolute rubbish.
There were problems with the delivery. The delivery guy parked a big heavy truck on my driveway, and when I told him I didn't like it, he got defensive and confrontational. I thought he was going to assault me, so I took measures in case he did. Fortunately, he backed off.
I sent a letter to Smith Bros, and I got an angry phone call from some loud mouth who tried his best to rationalize my complaints with a lot of marketing gobbledygook talk. Fortunately for him, I received the call over my voicemail; otherwise I would have had a couple of choice words for him.
What I'd like to do is drag this rubbish to my back yard, douse it with gasoline, and set it on fire. Then I'd make a video of the blaze and post it on the Internet. Unfortunately, my HOA and the fire department might frown on my behavior.
I have to get rid of this junk, so I tried to do a consignment with a used furniture store. They didn't want it. Next I tried advertising it on the Internet. I got two responses, both from scammers. My last resort is Goodwill. Maybe I can give it away?
I'LL REPEAT IT, DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THESE COMPANIES. SAVE YOURSELF TIME,...
Read moreIf you read the reviews you will certainly see a pattern with this company. I really didn’t want to write a review about what happened with me but the more I thought about it the more I wanted to share my experience with those who are thinking about buying from Furniture Fair.
I’ve bought furniture from this company for years so I wasn’t surprised that I found my perfect sectional there on October 2, 2020. At that time they said it would be in stock by the end of the year. After all, I was only waiting on two pieces because they had one piece of the sectional in stock (middle armless chair) already that they would hold just for me. I thought that would be great - I’d have it for the holidays. Then the date came and went still no sectional. They tell me it would be in stock by the end of January 2021 but again the date came and went with no sectional. The dates changed again to February 5 then again to end of February 2021 then to March 16 - at that time one piece did come in (my left side chaise) and it said that now I’m only waiting for one more piece (right side armchair) of my sectional. I thought this is great- I’ll get it soon now! Then the very next day I looked online at my order to see when to expect my last sectional piece and low and behold the piece that came in for me was now gone out of stock!
So I quickly called and they explain to me that it was given to another person who had purchased their sectional on 10/19/2020 - two weeks after I purchased mine when they promised that I was next in line! Their excuse was well you were waiting on two pieces and that customer only needed that One piece to complete their order. WHAT??? With that logic I would never get my sectional! I was told over and over I was next in line! I waited almost 6 months and if they hadn’t done that to me I would’ve been happy to continue to wait because I know the Pandemic has slowed things down but this was uncalled for, a horrible way to treat a long term customer as they did. They didn’t even try to make it up or apologize - all they said was “we can credit you back your money.” Well I know that you could credit me back my money at any point - what I wanted was the section I picked out.
Needless to say, I did request my refund but I caution anyone who is looking to Furniture Fair for their furniture and having to wait for it to come in stock. If this happened to me, it can happen to you....
Read moreWe had a terrible experience purchasing furniture from this store. We picked out a bed room set, told Tim what we wanted and that we wanted the store credit card with 6 month no interest. Tim took us to apply for the card and after we were approved, he told us that the furniture we picked out was not in stock. This was disappointing - if we would have known that first we would not have applied and bought something in stock else where. We needed the furniture by June 29, he promised us it would be in before then, and if not he would contact us to let us know. Then told us he was going on vacation and he would give our number to the store manager to let us know if our furniture would be delayed. No one ever contacted me, I had to call the store to see where our furniture was and then was told that it would not be delivered until July 15. I spoke to a manager who basically blamed Ashley furniture for having late deliveries lately and "we've been telling our salesmen to let customers know this"... which is not my problem, nor were we told this. I should not have been promised a date when you can't follow through with the promise. I asked what could be done for me and was told I could cancel my order or pick something else in stock.. The only furniture set we liked was the one we purchased and we didn't have time to buy something from somewhere else, not to mention my credit already had been hit with a hard inquiry because we weren't told this wasn't in stock until after we applied for the credit card. So we ended up putting our mattress on the floor for our guests to sleep on because of terrible customer service from this company. Also, it's ridiculous that there is a delivery fee to ship furniture from one of your warehouses to the other.. We will not be shopping from this company ever again.
Update: they gave us free delivery to make up for the late furniture.. the delivery...
