Absolutely terrible experience. We had a “gourmet seafood night” cooking class with Chef Lorna that was wildly under expectation. We bought this as a christmas gift for my parents and spent $400, so I expected a high class experience. We arrived to her home and it was immediately quiet and awkward, she had no music or anything to set the mood. I then notice that everything is already cut up and prepared. I’ve been to 7 cooking classes now and the expectation is to actually learn something and to have a set up to cut and get hands on. Instead she would awkwardly hand us cut up garlic and other things and say “uhm, Gwen do you want to pour these in?”.. didn’t explain what she was doing and how much of anything she would put in. So not only did we not actually get to cook anything or learn anything but the recipes were EXTREMELY elementary. She had small potatoes halved and then had us pour olive oil, salt, pepper and parsley.... That is in no way, gourmet. And then when you advertise something as Gourmet, I expect an actual GOURMET meal.. the ceviche was cooked small shrimp, lime and orange juice. She chose the cheapest fish.. salmon and shrimp. And then we get to dessert, which is advertised as Gelato.. and was a BIG reason I chose this experience, because my father in law loves gelato. Turns out it was ice cream.. she had us blend already cut up strawberries and then pour in condensed milk and whipped cream. Again, nothing special and most definitely NOT gelato. So not only was this not a cooking class, not gourmet, not gelato but she wasn’t engaging and didn’t create any sort of atmosphere. She never told us about her backround, never introduced herself and was just awkward at most times. The last thing I have to say is that this was a $400 dinner and supposed to be worth that money.. but her kids were upstairs screaming during dinner. I’m sorry, I get you have kids and you can’t control them, but if someone is paying that much money, figure something else out.
Overall, I DO NOT RECOMMEND Cozy Meals. This woman had multiple 5 star reviews, which we found out was her family who bought the experience. If you’re going to spend $100 a perso .. go to a real cooking class at a culinary school because clearly there is no consideration for what a cooking class is, how it should run or what the experience...
Read moreA cooking class was on my bucket list, and Cozymel was like a gift from heaven !
The location was great since it was a penthouse at a residential building in North Miami. Immediately, this takes the pressure out of the word "class" as it makes the experience very intimate and enjoyable. Even if you are Sharing the experience with people you never meet before, it becomes a friends gathering very quickly!
A large farm like table is set up in the middle of the venue right on front an open kitchen, which makes the transition and movement from the kitchen to dinner very organic and fun. Chef Nunzio; that Italian dude rocks ! He has a great personality and would answer all our questions not only about technique but also history. Not only is he Italian, ( you know, where pasta is from), but he also trained for many years to become a pasta chef.
We started the class by making a garden salad and we learned a few secrets to keep the greens crunchy and cut the veggies in the most perfect way with minimum effort (sorry guys, Can't share! You'll have to experience it yourself ). Then, Chef Nunzio shared his recipe for a home made citrus vinaigrette. We haven't even got to the pasta and we were winning already!
Now, be prepared to get your hand dirty ! Remember that long table we talk about earlier? Well, there is a spot for you with all the ingredients and utensils you need to make your own past from scratch. Yep, you get your own 0-0 flower, mix that with eggs, semolina flower and then, give a firm massage to that dough. After Cher Nunzio has verified your work holds to real Italian standards, you will make it very flat using a pasta machine before it gets to be pan.
Honestly, I learned a lot of things about the process of and the know how. It makes me respect and appreciate all the chefs and restaurants that take the time to make pasta in house just to keep the tradition and integrity of the flavor.
Next thing you know, il cibo è pronto! (Food is ready). We sat, we laugh, had some wine and enjoyed the most wonderful pasta made by all of us. A group of strangers cook and dine together and shared their love for food while learning about its tradition and origin. What a great experience Cozymeal! Can't...
Read moreWow, where should I start? With the amazing experience, the view, the class, the exclusive delightful service or the beyond delicious food we had?!Cozymeal along with the wonderful Chef Nunzio gave us a wonderful night were we learned how to cook pasta from scratch and I loved it because I have never done so. It was so nice to enter to the penthouse they rented for this event in Biscayne Boulevard here in Miami. The setting was simply PERFECT on a wooden table the plates, glasses and our aprons ready to eat and cook. Chef Nunzio besides been a spectacular host, he's an amazing teacher. He took his time to explain us step by step how to do the pasta. We also learned from him, the origins, the customs, the new and old ways how they really do it in Italy. While the pasta we each did had to rest for some minutes, we all enjoyed a fresh salad made with different ingredients like cucumber, arugula and my favorite: fennel. Chef and his assistant Luis served our food in the other side of our table and pour the wine for their guests since this is a BYOB kind of experience. Then we went back to cook and it was time to mold and create the pasta. He did all kinds from raviolis to angel hair as you can see in my pictures. The best part was the ricotta and four other cheese including pecorino that he added to the ravioli's filling. Fresh, smooth and scrumptiously delicious !!!!After, we moved to the counter and we were amazed by how Chef did the finishing touches of the pasta with the wild mushrooms, lots of butter, olive oil and wine. The smell was to die for but nothing compared with the taste. We went back to eat this wonderful pasta served by them and ten minutes later when we thought we were done they brought us what for me was The Best: the ricotta filled raviolis, a must try for sure!! Desert was a chocolate mouse with strawberries and whipped cream. Cozymeal experience was beyond I could have ever imagine. Thank you so much, I really appreciate your professionalism, dedication and I'm looking forward to...
