This experience was everything I was hoping for and MORE! Captain David was fantastic and is really passionate about sailing and the Biscane Bay area. If you are looking to relax and experience Biscane Bay on the water, BOOK THIS EXPERIENCE!
While I have very little experience on the water, my partner is an experienced boat Captain. We BOTH absolutely adored this experience! Captain David took us to sand bars where we could walk around in knee deep water and putter around with snorkel masks on! He provided snacks and drinks to munch on all while enjoying the cooling waters of the bay and the beautiful Miami skyline! We even saw a manatee surface in the water! Want to be a little more adventurous? Captain David will let you trapeze hang from the boat!! Now, I'm not the tiniest lady...and have a tendency to be a bit clumsy; with Captain David's instruction, I was able to hang from the rigging and skim the water while under full sail! If you are questioning whether you can do it - YOU CAN and YOU SHOULD!
A couple notes: 1) Definitely use the restroom before you head out on the water. 2) You WILL get wet so make sure you bring a change of clothes (the water feels AMAZING). 3) If you get sunburn easily, you are going to need sunscreen! 4) Keep in mind that sailing is completely dependent on the wind - no wind, no movement. Nevertheless, Captain David will keep you well-informed on the weather, but if the wind dies down while you are out on the Bay, your adventure may be a little longer than anticipated!
We loved this intimate adventure and would recommend and definitely do it again! Thank you,...
Read moreWe had a fantastic sailing experience with Captain David! It was a highlight of our trip to Miami!
We scheduled the 3 pm tour. Captain David texted us directions the night before and asked if we could sail at 2 pm as conditions looked more promising a little earlier in the day. They have a dry bag and small cooler available, but be aware that it is shared so try to pack light.
We were scheduled with another couple who asked to be returned to the dock earlier than the normal time due to other plans. Captain David was able to accommodate both parties- we dropped them off at their scheduled time after snacks at a beautiful beachy spot and then he took us back out for some additional sailing time.
We spotted dolphins, used the trapeze, and saw Miami in a whole new and beautiful way! We even ended up staying out to watch the sunset!
It is clear that Captain David is passionate about Biscayne Bay and loves what he does! We enjoyed hearing about the wildlife and ecosystems in the bay as well as stories about the sailboat community there. He was also a fantastic host, bringing some healthy snacks and beverages to enjoy, and he took great pictures and videos of us along the way too!
Salty Miami’s website says that they aim for an experience that feels “less like a touristy tour and more like going out sailing with a friend” and they nailed it! We left feeling like friends and will definitely be back if we visit Miami again! Best of luck on the Everglades Challenge...
Read moreMay 2024 - Captain JP is friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. You will be sailing on a Hobie Cat Catamaran which means you will get wet, you will go fast across the water powered by the wind and you will have FUN!! We had the distinct pleasure of sailing across Biscayne Bay which allowed us to see a small pod of dolphins including a rare sighting of mother and baby! If you want to have an authentic sailing experience, be close to the water, and be with really great people, I highly recommend booking this trip! We are experienced sailors and thoroughly enjoyed our time on the water!
The meeting spot is in a public park where you’ll be escorted to the dock and possibly transported by a small power boat to a float before getting onto the catamaran. You will need to transfer from dock to boat to float to catamaran. The catamaran is about 15’ in length. There is No head (restroom) or amenities onboard. Bring a change of clothes and leave them in the car for afterward. There is a freshwater outdoor shower to rinse off at the park’s public restroom. Use the park restroom before the adventure begins!
This is a fun activity and wonderful way to experience the beautiful...
