My husband and I used to love Sushi Garage's happy hour when it first opened and we lived within walking distance. It was well-priced, high-quality food and the extended hours were awesome. On a whim we decided to visit our old fave. Sadly our meal was a huge disappointment. Here is why:
the prices have gone WAY up. We each had a HH cocktail, shared a carafe of sake, and got a bunch of HH dishes and one noodle dish off the regular menu. It was $260 for two people. FOR HAPPY HOUR. A 1/2 roll of spicy tuna is more expensive than 50% of the full roll on the normal menu. How does that make sense? Customers pay a premium for a smaller portion as a HH deal?
the food is not nearly what it used to be. The quality of the fish was decent on the sushi, but the rolls were equivalent to grocery store rolls. Plus, they arrived at the table less than a minute after ordering, so they were clearly pre-made. For the equivalent of a $22 spicy tuna roll (!!), I atleast want to feel like you are making it fresh. We ordered soba noodles off the dinner menu with chicken instead of the HH option that's just noodles, based on the suggestion of our server. It was inedible. Food court quality (BARELY) with very dry cut up chicken breast thrown on top. Our server noticed we didn't touch it. We told him it really wasn't good and not to bother wrapping it up. He did nothing with that information.
the portions are tiny now. Our two happy hour drinks each had an oversized ice cube in the center, but the cocktail poured around it didn't reach halfway up a short rocks cocktail glass (and they were mixed drinks, not straight pours). They each had two big sips. The crispy gyoza had three tiny pieces in a small soup bowl of sauce, but all you tasted was a mouthful of fried dough. They were so small and doughy that the protein was unnoticeable.
The weirdest part is that Resy didn't show any reservations at our desired time on a random Monday night so we made a slightly later reservation figuring we would just show up early ... and when we did the restaurant was empty. Now I know why. What a total bummer. Back in the day, this place...
Read moreWORST SERVERS LENA & MIGUEL!!!! Terrible, Terrible, Terrible Service! Humiliating nonetheless. I came to the restaurant during my lunch hour. I ordered a ginger ale and asked the waiter about the Chicken Teriyaki Box, she explained and I said I would like to order that. As I’m sitting waiting on my order I noticed other orders coming out curious to when mine would come out. Lena my server stated she didn’t place my order she thought I didn’t want it and was just asking about the meal. She never came back to check and see if I wanted to order or if she could take the menus away if I didn't want to order that's how much nonattentive she was. I allowed her to place the order even though it was no accountability on her behalf with not placing the order in the first place but rather gave an excuse. I sat there in disbelief still willing to try the Chicken Teriyaki Box until I got up to seek a manager to explain the unsatisfied service I received. I was told no manager was on call until 3:00p.m. but Miguel who insisted he could help actually escalated the situation in the worst manner. I explained to him I was unsatisfied with my service and he insulted me with stating you have to wait for the food to come out without allowing me to explain my food was never placed to begin with. For him to speak to a customer in that manner and tell me "I need to wait for the food to come out" I told him and Lena standing nearby cancel the order I will not be treated or talked to in that manner. I was calm, I wasn't expressing the frustration from the negative service from the both. I walked away and they lost a customer who I did go a few times before. I would never go to this restaurant again and I recommend you find another server outside of Miguel and Lena if you do decide to go! lastly, her attitude was already terrible to begin with. If you don’t like where you work...
