What a fantastic dining experience at Varsol by Akashi Coconut Grove! From the moment we walked in, we felt incredibly welcome thanks to the warm greeting from the host. The decor was truly lovely, creating a sophisticated yet comfortable ambiance. The service was exceptional, with Gustavo and Jacob providing friendly and respectful treatment throughout our meal. We also received excellent service from the bartender, whose name I unfortunately missed but who crafted our drinks perfectly. Now, onto the food and drinks – simply delicious! We started with two sushi rolls, the Brie roll and the Shrimp Pop Roll, both of which were absolutely bursting with flavor. We then enjoyed a light and refreshing Salmon Carpaccio. For cocktails, my wife loved her Spicy Margarita, and my Negroni was expertly made. To top it all off, we shared Titi's Choco Mousse for dessert. It was the perfect ending, with a sweetness level that was just right. We highly recommend Varsol by Akashi Coconut Grove and can't wait to return!

Varsol is the best sushi restaurant in the U.S., hands down. From the ambience, to the service, to the food, this was the best restaurant experience I’ve ever had. Varsol is absolutely stunning, it’s like walking into an art museum. The servers are attentive, kind and quick, they set a very welcoming atmosphere. The sushi is served fresh at the perfect temperature. The sushi is also plated in a story-telling manner. It’s so hard for me to pick a favorite roll because all of them were phenomenal. Mitapon roll( truffle roll), sashimi and temaki were my personal favorites complimented with a bottle of Cabernet franc. I came with a big group so we sample a little bit of everything from the menu. Again, Varsol is phenomenal and you’re guaranteed to have a great time. Thank you Carlos(owner) for hosting us and for having the courage to follow through on such an incredible vision. You’ve gained a loyal customer. Please don’t change.

We ordered three dishes - two from the happy hour menu (tuna tartare and sashimi) and one from the main menu (Mita-Pon Truffle). Honestly, everything tasted off. It felt like the food had been pre-made and sitting in the fridge for days. The sashimi was a joke - paper thin, stale, and served on ice that looked like it had been reused a hundred times. It was honestly hard to tell what was worse: the taste or the presentation. Super disappointing and not appetizing at all. Drinks were fine, and our server was really nice. But when we asked for the check, another lady came over. She saw we barely touched the sushi roll, asked if we wanted a to-go box, and when we said no, she just took the check and the untouched roll without asking if anything was wrong. Kind of weird. Overall, wouldn’t recommend. The food was just bad, and the whole vibe felt off. Definitely not going back.

Please note that this review is based on a single visit during the Thanksgiving holidays and is intended as constructive criticism.

I visited this restaurant with my girlfriend, who was in town, and we left feeling disappointed. While there were some positive aspects, the overall experience fell short. First, I want to highlight that the host, the bald man at the entrance, was exceptional—friendly, welcoming, and genuinely attentive to the service quality in the restaurant. Unfortunately, that’s where the positive aspects ended.

Our waitress took around 20 minutes to greet us and seemed indifferent to my girlfriend's dietary restrictions; she served her miso soup and tuna tartare, both containing gluten, without acknowledging our request for gluten-free options. When we pointed out the mistake, the waitress simply took the plates back without offering an apology or a solution.

The fried rice was outstanding and I highly recommend it, but sadly, the sushi and sashimi were subpar—thick and slimy. The service was lacking in other ways as well: our waitress did not check in with us after we ordered, didn’t remove used plates, and made no effort to offer more drinks. When we were hit with a mandatory 20% service fee, she only offered an apology after I mentioned that her service was disappointing, and even then, her response was, “I wasn’t supposed to serve your table; they just gave it to me when you came in.”

We left frustrated after spending $150 and felt let down, especially considering my background in hospitality—having worked as a waiter, bartender, manager, and owner. The service we received reflected a lack of commitment to customer care and overall professionalism. This feedback is meant to be constructive, and I truly hope the team at this restaurant takes it to heart and makes improvements. I wish the restaurant all the best...

The server lady (the tall lady who served us) totally ruined the night for us. I felt that she was not welcoming, to us in particular. (She seemed to be alright to the table next to us.)

No smile, no eye contact, completely unwelcoming, we started becoming a bit uncomfortable with her. When we ordered the dessert she said our dessert will take 30mins but assured us that the main dish wont take long. We ended up waiting more than 30mins just for the main dish, and again waiting more for the dessert!!

Then she forgot about our soup that was supposed to come with the main course. She had already served the next table the same soup who ordered much later than us!! We had to remind her by the end of the meal and she brought it to us soullessly and completely unsorry. No one was blaming her but she could have atleast been nice enough to be apologetic about the continued delay and mistakes. Same thing with the main, the 4 ppl next table got the food while we had to wait much longer for the food. The dessert that actually took more than 30 minutes was wayyyyy too sweet, I felt like it was gonna give me diabetes. Again the server when we tried to get the bill, she was flat out staring into the card machine to pressure us into tipping her well. First time having such an experience! Despite how unhappy we were with her service we ofcourse did tip her but will never go there again nor recommend the place to anyone. Atmosphere is ok but...

Terrible, customer service, mediocre food. Save your time and money! I went to this restaurant on 2/18/22 after ordering online. Wait time 1.5 hours for 3 sushi rolls and 1chicken.w/noodles dish ordered online! I got to the restaurant 20 mins earlier than the “ready time” and decided to wait outside. I was standing near an outdoor table in front of the restaurant when some of the staff started taking the chairs away while I was standing there. No one asked if I wanted to sit down or if I was waiting for an order.. So I walked away and stood near some other outdoor tables. I stood there 15+ mins and none of the restaurant staff - several of whom were outside— said anything to me. No “good evening”, “may I help you”, “are you here for an order”. Not a word! Finally I saw a to-go bag sitting on the shelf inside and decided to go in to see if that was my order. I told the manager how I was not greeted or asked if I needed help and he proceeded to respond defensively, interrupti while I was speaking, etc. I will not patronize this...
