Caroline at Amato's has delivered above and beyond amazing customer service! Strap in- it's quite a story! I now live in Chicago and I grew up in CT. Amato's was a destination I wanted to bring my kids to when we visited my homeland over the holidays. We shopped there on NYE day, my kids armed with grandparent funds for a big spend. We dropped around $160 on toys for them and for friends we planned to visit in NY on our drive back to Chicago. After a wonderful visit to Amato's, we went across the street to Sicily for some coal-fired pizza and somehow-ughhh (insert blame here on husband)- our huge bag of toys with receipt was left under the table at Sicily. We didn't realize it until the next day, which all the businesses were closed, due to the holiday. We called Amato's, left a voicemail, called Sicily, left a voicemail- we were resigned that we left CT emptyhanded and the kids were so disappointed-the bag of toys was lost forever! But NO!: Caroline heard the voicemail and took it upon herself to make extra calls and knew someone who could retrieve the bag- thank you, Sicily for saving it! An employee from Sicily brought it to Amato's and then Caroline called me and we had the items shipped to us in Chicago and our friends in NY! We can't believe our luck and we are in love with the small-town charm of the community in Middletown, CT. Our faith in humanity renewed! Thank...
Read moreIf you are like me and find Toys R Us overwhelming as well as supremely annoying to shop at then Amato's is your store of choice. About 1/3 of the store is dedicated to crafts, models, trains, etc. There is a great selection of developmental and STEM toys for the youngest to oldest kids (i.e. I have shopped for myself while shopping for my four kids that range from 5 months to 8 years old). Plenty of Lego products, Melissa & Doug, Playmobil. Stuffed animals, books, wooden toys and doll houses. Pokemon, Magic and all those other card games are in abundance. If you're into Dungeons & Dragons, Warhammer and those type of games then they have everything you could possibly need. All things you could need for Boy or Girl Scouts is here. The seasonal train display in the basement for Christmas time is not too be missed; it is at the same time epic, fantastical and historic. They have other special events as well such as a Thomas the Train that runs up and down the sidewalk on Main Street. Lastly, I'll say that the effort their staff puts in is commendable. They are all personable and helpful while refraining from...
Read moreAmato’s Middletown is your Connecticut Go-To for premium model trains. While this is also a general toy store, I frequent it because of it’s model train section. There are different types of train stores out there. This one focuses on NEW trains and equipment mostly, and when I go there it is because I either want some of their good selection of Lionel Fastrack, LGB Brass G scale track, or some new model locomotive. They have hobby-grade G scale, HO, N and O gauge train sets. Their used equipment selection is very small however, so Amato’s is mainly the Go-To for new, nice stuff.
I frequent this store 3 - 4 times per year, and it’s usually because I want a nice new train set.
The staff is knowledgeable and nice, and where their customer service shines is where I once ran into trouble with an O gauge locomotive I bought there 3 months prior. I did not have the physical receipt, but they were able to look up the sale using my personal information. They let me exchange the bad locomotive for a new locomotive. This is an example of decent customer service so I enjoy supporting this wonderful...
