I don't typically feel compelled to leave an online review but I was very motivated to do just that after my negative experience at this store yesterday.
This was my first time shopping at Boscov's. A few people had told me about great deals on pots and pans in their kitchen department. I'm a cook by trade and since I had saved some extra cash, I decided to make the one hour drive to Erie to check this place out.
I arrived and went upstairs to the kitchen department and began shopping the deals. I'm not sure what I did or perhaps it was because I wasn't dressed as nice as I could have been (work jeans and t-shirt), but the salesperson at the counter never greeted me, even though she circled the area I was shopping in about five times. She never asked if I needed help finding anything even though I could hear her greeting other customers and chatting with them warmly. It kind of felt like she thought I was a shoplifter, even though I didn't have a backpack. I felt like I was being monitored. It was weird, uncomfortable, and off-putting. Even after I brought three items to her sales desk totaling over $60, she was still cold towards me, barely speaking or making eye contact while bagging up my purchases.
It's really unfortunate to have an experience like this and it reminds me of why I shop on Amazon. If this is how I'm going to be treated for driving an hour to a store and spending my hard-earned money, then I see no reason to return to Boscov's in Erie. I get better service and sometimes better deals at my local Big Lots. You lost a potential customer, Boscov's. Not impressed and not recommending to any of my fellow...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis store I have mixed thoughts on. So I'm going to give it at least a 3-star rating; why? Because even though their selection seems to be nice, this was BY FAR the MOST UGLIEST BOSCOV'S STORE EVER!!! (With the expection of maybe the new one that opened at Eastwood Mall in Niles, Ohio, that one looks too much like a Target or some other discount department store alike.) I like the older stores because they used to have like grand decorative ceilings like mirrors and beautiful chandeliers, (and don't forget about that '80s/'90s neon). This store lacks that.
The only thing I can say about this place is that these new Boscov's store all have the same ceiling height, same color scheme thur-out it (it's like all just plain stark white. But I guess that's what people love today); and it makes me feel claustrophobic! Not only that, but they also don't have good signage and you could easily get lost in here! THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE ANY SIGNS POINTING OUT WHERE THE ELEVATOR IS!!! (They could have at least put some more directory signs so you could actually figure where to; neon, although I think is becoming illegal now due to some stupid reason, or just plain; I'd be fine either way.) Also the departments feel too cramped compared to the older stores I've been to like the one at Butler, PA's Clearview Mall. Although I do got to admit... It does look a hell-of-a-lot nicer than the former Sears that occupied this space originally. It's just this store lacks some things...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI normally have had a good experience at this store but this morning I took my daughter in to see if they had a dress she liked. We found one that was on a rack with a sign that read 39.99. She had tried on about 5 dresses and we browsed for about 30 minutes in the junior section. We didn't see any sales associates, which was fine, so we checked out at the Men's register which was very busy. The elderly man checking us out rang up the price of the dress as $70. I told him the sign said $39.99. Normally, I don't care about prices swinging by $5 but this was over by $30. He went to check and said, "Sorry, it's $70." I said, "OK, well...unfortunately I am not prepared to pay that. Can you just void the sale." He replied, "There is a sales lady over there. You shouldn't have come over here." I told him about how there was no one there the entire time we were trying on dresses. He continued to say, "Well I had no problem finding her." my daughter was dissapointed about not getting the dress, but never said ANYTHING and he looked at her and said, "I'm sorry your mother didn't read the sign. The discount was for spefic brands." I was pretty offended by that comment aimed at my CHILD. I didn't speak to him further and I just left the store.
Thank you to Macy's for making my...
