My first time at Barry’s I was woefully unprepared physically for what I was getting myself into. However, that was on me. The workouts are designed to be HARD, and there are decent parts dedicated to treadmill running, but almost everything can be adjusted and modified to your own pace and difficulty. After the first few times, I paused for a bit to condition myself away from running. Then came back, and I’m glad I came back.
I’ve been doing 2-3 workouts/week for a couple months now. This small add has significantly improved my overall fitness and specifically my endurance for my martial arts practice.
The big benefits of this location specifically are the instructors, desk staff, and the quality of the treadmills. I’ve taken classes with four different instructors now and they’ve all been excellent with varying strengths across the board. Above all, the desk staff have been overwhelmingly friendly and welcoming.
They make a point to know your name and it’s not a bunch of cookie cutter trendy fitness folks either. For MN, it’s decently diverse in both staff and members and very LGBTQIA+ -friendly (IMO as I fit multiple letters there). I actually met the GM of this location today as well. Super nice, and takes classes there too. It seems like quite a few instructors and staff take classes there as well, but it doesn’t make it feel cliquey IMO. I’m an introverted nerd too so, I’m not exactly outgoing.
As for those treadmills, that may be the other major reason I keep coming back. I’ve been able to improve my running form (lots of mirrors) and the treads are solidly built, but not hard—they have a spongy/squishy quality. They’re the big rugged rubber belt kind. Seriously Im prone to running injuries like rolling ankles ( hyper mobile joints) these things are the best thing. I love it. Very happy with my experience...

The Barry's Minneapolis staff led by the fantastic General Manager "Di" Thueson were all so welcoming over the several days I took classes while in town. Jacob Louis III made me an excellent smoothie and the Red Room coaches were A+++ - special shout outs to Sam Marshall and José Mendoza Figueroa for being motivating, kind and excellent representation of the Barry's brand. BRAVA and BRAVO to you two. They all really made the start of my work days in the city energized and I can't wait to visit again in July, August, and beyond!! Thank you Barry's Minneapolis!! Simply Top Notch!! See you soon!! Simply...
Read moreAs a first timer not only to his specific class, but to a workout class in general, he made me feel welcomed and part of the group. He was supportive and provided great guidance where someone like me always knew what to do, how to do something, and where to go. I would strongly recommend anyone, new or veteran workout class goers, to check out Nick's...
