One day, we admired our friends' son's haircut and they said, go to Cubby Cuts! They commented on how quickly the barber worked, and how even the cut was (indeed it looked quite even). So we took our toddler daughter there and Cubby Cuts has cut her hair twice. My theory is that the barber may be good at toddler boys' haircuts, but not great at toddler girls'. Both times, our daughter's hair ended up somewhat choppy and uneven. That said, the barber was very nice, especially the first time when our daughter wept through the entire process (she got weirded out being buckled in by a stranger). At first, we thought the choppiness was due to the fact that the barber tried to complete the first cut quickly (on account of the weeping client). But the second time, our daughter was calm and happy, and the cut was still choppy. So we're off to try another salon. On the place itself: it's a bit crazy, cramped, and kind of dimly lit to me...lots of toys, a TV on in the play area, and even a small bounce house you can pay to let your kids jump in, with everything crammed into a small retail space. My kid didn't seem to mind, but wasn't enormously into it either (but your child might have fun). We did like the barber's muscle-Batman apron. I would go 3 stars, but our friends' son's cut looked good, and the barber is quite nice, so...
Read moreThere's no phone service (only a prerecorded message letting you know that voicemails will not be checked) nor a way to contact the business should you have any questions or need clarification. The price of the haircut is quite expensive at $36 (for a cut they tell you will be done in 10-15min). I was about to bite the bullet and give it a try until the booking process that asks for a $5 prepayment. At first I thought the $5 was a deposit towards the $36 of the haircut, however it seems to be an additional $5 booking fee. Keep in mind that there's no other way to book your appointment than to do it online and that no walk-ins are allowed. Unless I'm missing something, this means that a haircut at cubby cuts is currently $41, before taxes and tip (with taxes and a 15% tip, you'll be in for $50) ! That's really expensive. If you need to reschedule the haircut (covid exposure? Sickness?), know that you will have to pay a new $5 fee, and of course if you cancel you will lose the $5. I also didn't like that for every bad review I read here or on yelp, Nicole always had a justification, excuse or deflected rather than recognize the business' faulty and...
Read moreWe've gone to Cubby Cuts twice, including right before the latest shutdown, and we had great experiences both times. The setup is nice and very kid friendly, with several options for where they can sit (cars, a horse, etc.) and lots of familiar cartoon characters to help distract them if they're nervous. The owner does a great job relating with the kids, and he also does a great job with their hair. The haircut was quick and easy. He also gave me some tips on how to best comb out the knots in my daughter's hair, which my daughter now appreciates on a daily basis! Great place for a kids haircut, and we'll be back...
