From the moment you open the door, you know you’ve made a mistake… |That said, we had a lot of laughs staying at the yachtsman! ||The laughing started at check in. The info sheet we received clearly said check in is at 4:00. We dutifully waited, visiting Broadway on the Beach, and going food shopping. We arrived at 4:20 to sign in, first going to the wrong building, and then wandering around until we found the office, which CLOSES at 4:00. Happily, a friendly security guard found our paperwork and checked us in. The staff said we could have checked in sooner if the room was ready - who knew?||We found our luxury unit on an upper floor of this so-called resort. The decor is from the 80s, when it was opened as a luxurious timeshare resort for yachtsman ( though we didn’t see a single boat the whole time we were there). It has the feel of a dorm room with a fantastic view.||We’re still trying to figure out how they got a double bed into the bedroom. Maybe the room was built around it? We loved the shower curtain used for a closet door. We had to check the stopper on the toilet to make sure it went down after each flushing. The front of the refrigerator had rust spots. On the bright side, the TVs looked new, and the microwave was powerful. The unit looked clean. There’s also a clothesline in the bathtub for your drying pleasure. We used the one-foot- deep balcony for drying clothes. Happily, they didn’t fall in the pool! The info sheet said clearly that there is no shampoo provided, but that they do provide coffee filters. We couldn’t find any, so we trotted across the street to buy some. We left them in the unit for the next lucky customer. ||This property has been purchased within the last month by a company in California that has plans for it. We thought maybe the plans should include tearing it down and starting over. Things might improve with at least $2 million dollars in repairs and updates.||It’s true that the location is on the Boardwalk at the heart of everything that downtown Myrtle Beach has to offer. This includes the rooftop karaoke bar next door. Our building thrummed with music until about 11 pm on weekdays. We can only guess what time it ends on weekends. Happily, the bar was quiet on the third night, but the peace was shattered by an impromptu parade of cars going back and forth on the strip in boisterous celebration of a huge car show being held nearby. Bring good earplugs.||By the way, I asked about the activities, but unfortunately they’re on the winter schedule until further notice. On the bright side, resort clothing (“I survived the Yachtsman Resort” T-shirts - really!) are on sale at 75% off!||If you’re security conscious, this may not be not the place for you. Everything is open to the street, including the pool, elevators and stairway. There are deadbolt locks on unit doors, but no night safety locks. We couldn’t open the bedroom window even if we wanted to, because there was no way to limit the opening. There is a security person on duty.||We gave the yachtsman two stars instead of one, because the pool looked good, though we didn’t use it, and the view of the ocean is spectacular. If you decide to stay here - it is inexpensive- it helps to have a good...

Read moreHere this week with my mother for a getaway. First thing, the main office is slightly secluded in the south building so that was hard to find. The room we got is in the north tower. It's a loft/studio style. The room has a closed bathroom but the rest is open (like a studio, duh). Awesome things are that it had a fully stocked kitchen, yeah some stuff might be a little dated but the look and the flat screen tv's are more than enough for the low price you get for oceanfront on the beach! Yes, the balconies are about a foot wide. Which is the downside to having a balcony. But, all the rooms have it the same, at least in this north building. I found out the reason why... they actually expanded the rooms out onto the balcony giving the rooms more space. So in point, they were not originally like this, but they kind of make up for it with the great big balcony doors and the bed is right beside it so you get to sleep and wake up with the ocean next to you! Totally a plus to me! Literally about 3 blocks from the strip (bunch of stores/attractions along Ocean isle blvd) and the pier 14 and boardwalk are right beside us to the south. Also, our beach access is connected to the boardwalk so it's really convenient. Yes, there is construction going on to the north side of us but the nice isn't that bad, I barely notice it. And it's actually nice because since there is no building there yet there are less ppl on the actual beach in front! So it's a "win" in my opinion. There is a 7' deep pool, a 2' kiddie pool and a spa at this north tower. AND YES, there IS indeed a restroom right inside the building to the pool area. I did see that the south tower did have another 8' deep pool but I didn't explore that building a lot. The outdoor pools are not heated. There is house keeping that comes by, I don't t understand how others said there wasent. They've been super friendly and are great The office staff on the other hand are a bit curt and not professional. In our case, we checked in, everything was fine. Then later at about 9pm we get a room call telling us that they had forgotten to charge us a fee when we checked in. They wanted us to come right away to pay it! Are you serious? You call us at night saying we need to pay something immediately? Mother assured them we would come by the next day to pay it. Next morning... we were literally leaving when they room called... we didn't pick up because we were leaving... they then call my mother's cell to demand we go to pay it now. It was not professional and very rude. Other than the fact that we also had a telemarketer call us, yes, room call us, to ask us how our stay "went" and if we wanted to go on a timeshare tour...AND IT WAS JUST THE DAY AFTER WE ARRIVED. What in the world! Never had that happen before.
So other than not being happy with the office folk. Everything else was just fine. The room is quaint amd cute. For the price it is great. If your a picky person who needs too much space and extreme privacy prone, don't come here. Has a great location. Great amenities. Honestly, I would consider...
