Play It Again Sports — Local services in New Braunfels

This review is based on our two visits. One being the first time they opened. We went in to look for a dumbell rack for a client. They did not have one and were told by the owner that they would be getting more equipment in. So we left our name and number. NEVER received a call. Now, some time has gone by. The second time was yesterday, the 27th of February. We were again looking for a specific item. We found it and looked online to compare prices. They were the same. Now, we are all about SUPPORTING small businesses, but the lack of CUSTOMER SERVICE is not acceptable to us. We walked in, and a lady was holding a young baby behind the counter. Perhaps the owners wife? She looked at us and said NOT one word. We walked towards the back and a man came out of the back office. He passed us and said NOT one word. Now, the right thing to do is say hello. Can I help you find something. NOT one word. Again, I am willing to support small businesses, but what I don't care for is LACK of CUSTOMER SERVICE. I have a home gym, and I’m cheap. I also prefer purchasing brands I know will last, but I hate paying sticker price. I bought a used Nordictrack treadmill at Play It Again and I had a great experience. The staff showed me all the bells and whistles, and debated the pros and cons with me of the model I purchased vs. the “pro” version next to it. The store also offers local delivery for a fee. We had the treadmill delivered later that week to our garage.

I’ve never been a runner, and told myself I’d only start if I could find a reasonably priced treadmill to use at home. (I was certainly not learning to run in 108 degree heat). Happy to report that thanks to my sweet deal from Play it Again, I just ran my first 5k well under my goal time....

I had the day off and went in looking for some lighter dumbbells to help rehab my shoulder. This place has a pretty descent selection of used sports equipment. In fact, the two guys who came in before me were shopping for golf clubs, which they had a fantastic selection of. There were a few random machines at the store. I found the dumbbells in the corner. When I started pricing them out, they were priced about the same as I could get new. I had hoped to save a few dollars buying a pair of dumbbells.

In a pinch, I would stop here to shop for lightly used fitness equipment. I was a little disappointed I was not able to save any money on my dumbbell purchase. Overall, it is worth it to stop in to see if they have what you...
