There’s usually a police presence which makes the public feel safer but the automated machines to buy metrocards never work and you can’t buy at the booth. I feel so bad for those who are detained or fined for hopping the train because there’s no way to purchase a ride. MTA needs to do better and I pray NYPD is taking this into consideration. Very ghetto passengers here! Lots of people asking for a swipe or better yet, for you to pay them so they can swipe you through. Some drug users often are sitting on the wooden benches past the turnstiles at the 168th Street entrance. Avoid them by having your Metrocard already out, walk super fast and swipe quickly without confrontation. The drug users always ask for money and say they aren’t going to use it for drugs or alcohol.
