Great location, fairly clean subway, has elevators at the north end of the platform, but the platforms are so narrow that you may have trouble trying to reach them. Just about everyone in NYC ends up using this station at one time or another, because of its location. It's near Lincoln Center, the NY Historical Society, and the Museum of Natural History. The Dakota and Ansonia are nearby, as are the parks of Riverside Drive and Central Park. You can use this station to get to Macy's thanksgiving parade. Zabars and Greengrass are nearby, and this neighborhood is home to a hundred other restaurants and bars that people find it fun to explore, evaluate, and recommend on their own. The upper 70s are a good neighborhood where you can hang out, shop, or unwind after stopping at a nearby destination. All these reasons give the MTA good reason to maintain the 72nd street subway station, so it is usually pleasant enough to use. It is not as congested as some of the Lex Ave stations, though there are plenty of times where the station is busy.

Great subway station from the outside. The building itself is an historical landmark in Upper West Side, providing access to 1,2,3 trains to commuters and tourists. (9 trains in the past if wondering why there are 4 circles on the station window) The inside of the station is rather narrow compared to other stations and has even narrower staircase creating bottleneck during rush hours. Despite that its an iconic figure of Upper West Side providing both local and express service to straphangers in New York City. Elevator access available on the 72/73rd side station.
