I have finally decided to leave a review for the services I’ve been receiving from John. I have followed him from Broadway location to the East Side, even though it’s a hell of a trip from where I live at the moment. I enjoy experimenting with my hair, having tried every possible color and style imagined and John had never disappointed. I went through a phase of bleach blonde highlights, moment of sun-kissed ombrés and a whole era of bold colors (pink, purple, lavender, emerald and dark blue to date) and I have always been not only happy with the results but there’s actual hair still attached to my head, which is a miracle in itself considering what I’ve put it through. Additionally, he gives KILLER haircuts (I think even better than the color lol). Seriously, he’s great with the scissors- so much that even my fiancée usually notices the change (while remaining blissfully oblivious to all other forms of metamorphosis, including the time I went PURPLE from dark blonde and yes, I wish I was joking). I do appreciate John’s blunt honesty regarding achievability of a desired color/style and how it will affect the state of my hair. I have sent my mom and best friend to get their hair done by John and they became regulars now.

As with everything in life, you can’t possibly please everybody- a positive experience of one person does not guarantee same level of satisfaction for another. Nevertheless, I hope that you will be as happy as I am, if you decide to give John a chance. Just trust the process and let his creativity and skills speak...

I have recently moved to UES and was on the lookout for a new stylist, which (as I’m sure most women know) is a risky endeavor in itself. I have avoided this doubtful pleasantry for as long as I could, but finally the time has come when even an up-do couldn’t hide the mess my hair has become. I passed by this salon daily and, thanks to the ginormous windows, paid close attention to different hairdressers and their work. One afternoon I have finally decided to come in and schedule an appointment with a stylist whom I secretly stalked through the said windows in the last 2 months- and that’s how I met John. He seemed genuinely passionate about his work and I could tell he’s experienced, just by watching his methodology. John has been taking care of my hair for the past 6 months and I must say that it never looked better. Each time he creates this perfect shade of blonde, that I get frequently asked whether it’s my natural hair color. I also appreciate that he takes your hair’s health seriously and always aims to do least amount of damage possible. Oh, and half an inch is always half an inch with this guy! I had a bad experience here. I called beforehand to schedule a blowout and told them I have long, fine hair - after which they said it would be $40. I arrived at the scheduled time, had to wait 25 min, and then the girl who washed my hair kept saying “this is too much hair, too much” and it made me feel self conscious. Another woman did my blow out and kept asking if she could flat iron it afterwards, even though I told her my hair wouldn’t hold the curls. She said “I’ve done this before” and did it anyway. My hair looked okay at the end - nothing special. When I went to pay, they charged me $53! It was the same woman I spoke with on the phone, and she said I “lied about my hair type” (even though the woman who did it said more than once that my hair is thin and straightens well) and that they had to charge me extra for the curling iron - which I didn’t even want and refused multiple times! I hate feeling scammed when I make a point to ask for the price beforehand, and then they charge me extra when it’s done without mentioning that certain services cost more BEFORE doing them.
