July was a pretty hectic month as I had to, once again, search for a more affordable zip code for Mom. I’ve been sure to always place her in quality assisted living for Memory Care - but the increased cost of elder care outpaces inflation by a long shot, while her pension and social security remain fixed until her life story ends.

ZIP CODE MATTERS. And with each move, she is farther and father away from me. For the first time, I had to cross state lines.

Thanks to Rod Oshins’ research, we moved her to a lovely place in New Jersey - but thankfully I live within 10 minutes of of the George Washington Bridge, and she is equidistant to it on the Jersey side. Thank goodness for Lyft - only 25 minutes away on a good day!

So far, I’m very happy with this choice. The staff is very friendly and attentive, so it took no time for Mom to adjust.

She has a sunny room equipped with a kitchenette all to herself - no roommates YAY! There is a gorgeous dining room, private dining for special events, several cozy living room spaces, outdoor patios, entertainment, cinema, art room, on-site wellness/nursing facility with visiting doctors and nurse practitioner weekly.

The decor is joyous and welcoming, centered around an old 1940s/50s Hollywood and Television movie star theme.

Several years back, it became apparent that I would need to find an assisted living facility for my elderly parents. Mounting a search for a suitable place for my folks, someone within the eldercare community suggested that I ‘Call Eric’. This proved to be a critical bit of counsel with a rather successful outcome. Eric patiently listened while I recounted my folks’ somewhat complex situation then analyzed and provided excellent advice based on their medical and financial needs at the time. Eric presented a range of options and ideas, as well as setting up introductions/tours to the various assisted living facilities within the targeted area. Given his knowledge of and experience within this industry, Eric’s observations and recommendations were spot-on.

Although our pursuit for an assisted living facility took a bit longer than expected and the parameters changed (sadly, my mother passed during the search, so finding a facility for my dad became an imperative), Eric hung in there with us. No ‘hard sell’ (like a similar national organization who will remain nameless), just steadfast care and compassion with a very personal touch. Ultimately, we found an assisted living community close by to our home that was a good fit for my dad. He moved in mid-September 2021 and is reasonably pleased with his new surroundings. Having 24x7 care for my dad allows me to sleep at night knowing that he is safe and well taken care of.
