Celebrating a BIG Birthday my daughter brought me to Peacefood. 1.we were fasting (being Hindu) She is of a more a plant based consumer and was loving the menu on line. We thought the restaurant was cozy, nicely lit and had a nice crowd. We were greeted and we asked to be seated towards the back. Our waitress gave us our menu (no name, no introduction, no conversation)..and walked away. within 15 minutes, she came by 3 times. She pretty much came at us as if we should have known what we wanted to order.... I don't know, so at that point we just ordered. We got hot drinks,(she gave us spoons, yet offered NO sugar) a starter and a sandwich, which we were gonna share. I noticed that she was gearing up to take her break and another waitress came by and offered us sharing plates, So we dined on our meal quietly. there were a pair sitting at the back table who were attracting most all of the employees to which they all seemed distracted and there was a slow rotation to the pair in the back, for conversation and chuckles, weird but ok. All the while a gentleman sat next to us to which he ordered a FANTASTIC meal!!! I was intrigued and asked what he ordered... He told me it was a fava bean cutlet with caramelized onions. Wow, I thought to myself I want that!!!. Turns out there is a DINNER Menu!!!-well who knew???. The kind gentleman was shocked that I wasn't offered the dinner menu and said I should say something, as I deserved a coupon or a meal or a discount on a next visit. I smiled, thanked him and turned back to my meal. By that time the waitress was back from her break, we asked for the menu to order our dessert to where I asked if there's a second menu... Yes, she replied happily.
Well, why wasn't I given that menu I asked... She had no words, jus put her hand up and said sorry. I look at her and said, well I jus ate a sandwich for my Birthday, wouldn't it have been nice to enjoy a meal like what the gentleman next to me had????, a knife & fork kinda meal??? She said, OH, it's your birthday, well happy birthday!!!! That's great!!!!! And stared at me. Nothing phased this chick!!! I'm yet to ever run into something like this!!! She came back with our dessert with a candle on it, as if it made up for anything.
Well I made a wish, we ate our cheesecake and when she came by to take our dishes, she looked down and said, WOW, YOU DIDNT EAT THE CANDLE??? - And SHE GOT JOKES TOO!!!
MIND you I was charged for everything we ordered - hysterical!!!! I tipped as I am a good person. I refused to have my daughter pay for this meal. She aimed high on wanting to wow me and the service didn't even make the grade
When I got home I took the time to read the reviews and it seems like service is a one star kinda thing here
So here's my suggestion to management.... You need to RETRAIN your employees on compassion & how to treat their patrons. Also, please know, if you don't like what you do for a living, it's time to move on. Maybe hire folks who enjoy being in the company of others also the job of 'Service' is a very important part of ANY company!! Your employees can make your facility #1 all by the way they treat your customers.
The demeanor of the waitress was as if she was doing me a favor by being there. This situation was so weird that it wasn't even worth calling a manager over. And now that I reflect, I feel the Manger was included in the rotation to the pair in the back!! Celebrity?? Not sure! what I do know is this facility may not be on my 'goto' in the future which is sad. I enjoy dining out with friends, and would never have them subjected to this type of...
Read moreWhat a disappointing experience. This was my FAVORITE restaurant while I lived in NY for 7 years. Every time I come back I make an effort to stop by for my favorite Mushroom Pizza and Peacebowl. This trip was no different, as I planned to spend my Friday Night dinner here with my sister. Per their store hours, they close at 9 pm. We called at 8:00 to find out when last seating was to determine if we could have a nice walk or we should rush in a cab. We were told 8:45 is last seating. GREAT we can walk! We arrive at 8:35 and was greeted by two women who proceeded to tell us that they are closing early tonight and seating was closed. I then said, we had called and a man told us 8:45, once we told them the name of the gentleman we were told "he wasn't given the right info and because they were slow, they were closing early" I said, we did our due-diligence by calling, I don't see why we should be penalized. I was then told by one of the woman with an immense amount of attitude "we have every right to close whenever we want". Clearly, not getting anywhere, I said "fine we will do take out." With the same level of attitude she said "Take out ended at 8:30" Mind you, it's 8:35 and WE CALLED TO MAKE SURE NONE OF THIS WOULD HAPPEN. She then said she would go and find out if the kitchen would make an exception and I see her talking to other co-workers, clearly not speaking nicely about us, in front of us. The man who answered the phone then comes over to say he was in a car accident and his mind isn't all there and gave us the wrong information. He felt poorly for the situations and said we could sit and stay. Reluctantly we sat and our waitress was nothing but kind and apologetic. I said, we completely understand, however, I am visiting NY, planned my trip to come here for dinner, did our job by calling so it's a give and a take. Also, let's keep in mind, they are CHOOSING to close early because they are slow, even though they have eager customers who want to eat there. We then order Chicken and Waffles and they come cold. We choose not to say anything as it's evident we are not even wanted. The woman who was nothing but rude to us is now talking to all the other guests, because yes, they still have 3 tables with guests. She is laughing and talking, but will only give us her back and is clearly ignoring us. She then proceeds to clean up all the tables around us, even putting the chairs up making it that much more obvious she does not want us in the restaurant. Our waitress was the only saving grace to this disastrous experience. Obviously, due to Covid, my favorite pizza has since been removed from the menu so all in all it was a disappointing dinner. I work in customer service, I worked retail for 7 years in NYC and customer service is my number 1 when it comes to service industries. The way we were treated by this one woman was completely inappropriate and unprofessional. She made it very evident that her Friday night plans were more important than her doing her job. In my mind, that's text book No No. We left by 9:10 at the exact same time as the other guests because we made sure to not over-stay our welcome as we were allowed to dine in. Two days later I went to the downtown location and had the completely opposite experience. Since moving away 5 years ago, I have told countless people to visit this restaurant on their trips to NYC, so to say I was disappointed is an understatement. Peacefood Uptown just lost a...
Read moreComing out from a great massage I was famished but needed somewhere very vegan, meatless, and on [The Westside]. I hadn’t been here since the pandemic broke out, sometime before 2020– a long while. Well, upon seeing the exterior booths built onto the side of the building was quite surprising. Then once inside it was easy to tell everything was shifted around, all the tables being greatly separated from one another. All the dividing furnishings were removed and it was just one huge open space. I was immediately seated. And it wasn’t long before this trio of two dapper young women and a male friend were seated at a table just close by me. What was so interesting about one of the gals was her beauty and tawny cheeky good looks. Short skirted. Flirty. With a judicious stare about her that was mysterious. Stunning. I thought to myself. Maybe even movie star material! However when listening in conversation at a distance she spoke perfectly between Spanish and English. In all appearance they were speaking Spanish—aah, Spaniards … and tourists ! Forgive me. Too too pretty to stop from staring.
In any event, the inspiration became short-lived within a matter of moments and my dinner had finally arrived in all its glory. Of course I couldn’t finish anything and just carted everything home. But, the lovely waitress [Catlyn] was ever so pleasant and gracious. Extra extra kind and super-polite. As for the other waiter [Lane] outfitted with a nose-ring with his bouncy tousled jet black hair like a modernized Toulouse-Lautrec running tables, smart and efficient. Pleasantly waiting tables cutting across the place. Excellent staff and greatly friendly. With exceptions seeing how the others in their flurrying busy-ness ran around supposedly unnoticed in their attitudinal class so attentive to their dinersl
All in all it’s a place that could easily slip into the likes of San Francisco’s hipster vibe somewhere sight unseen or something in L.A.’s star studded vistas, maybe Santa Monica or Los Feliz … like so many many positively Uber options to expand upon such great ideas taking a slice from NYC and going bi-coastal. Amazingly superb. But for anyone, for that matter, it’s like the Starbucks of the Vegan world— aptly marvelous and a super cool superior take on the staple we love to nosh on most whenever it feels right!
We’ve been patronizing this place for years now. Since 2007–and, it’s still fantastic to come by alone or in a group or as families enjoying it with their kids. Just memorable and long-lasting enjoyment for everyone at all ages. A must for sure for any vegetarian options. Voted « One of the Best in NYC » hands down by...
