Bike and Spin — Local services in New York

The owner is a very nice and hands on individual. I came in with my son and he was personable and eager to educate me on my bike. I had a 5 year old Felt bike that needed some attention. He didn't attempt to nickle and dime myself. Instead he walked me through what needed to be fixed and gave a good price for the work. I was to pick up my bike three days later but I was unable too and he was gracious enough to hold it till Friday. The day after I received my bike I did have an issue with the chain not moving properly because the derailer wasn't aligned correctly. I brought it and it was fixed immediately. He even took it for a test ride 3 times to confirm the problem and confirm it was fixed. I will be bringing my wife's bike in when she is ready to start riding again in the spring.

I did have a few additional question, such as, is it possible to ride with my 6 year old son on my bike. We had a nice conversation about different options, increased safety while riding with a child, and he even queried about my helmet wearing (Which I 100% do and you should too).

In a case of coincidence I was there when the single one star reviewer had arrived. I won't speak on the reviewers actions but the owner was more than gracious in my opinion. I visually had seen the bike was next to be worked on by the technician who just completed work on a young teenagers bike and was teaching him to fill the tire with air. The owner assured the reviewer it would be ready before closing in an hour and even offered a discount to the man for the wait. Unfortunately he was not taken up on this offer. The owner apologized and didn't charge a single dollar.

I came to this workshop about a month ago and asked them to put sealant in my wheels since I ride tubeless. Normally this takes no more than 5 minutes, because the sealant can just be poured through the valve.

I came in 40 minutes before closing, but they told me they couldn’t do it because it would take too long and I should come back the next day. I asked if I added an extra $50, could they do it, and suddenly they took the bike right away and finished in 3 minutes.

They gave me back the bike with sealant in the wheels, but the front wheel kept losing air. I rode like that for a few weeks and decided to come back to the same workshop to ask them to fix it. I also noticed the valve rubber gasket was turned a bit to the side and thought maybe that was the issue. I asked the guys to tighten it. They started telling me how busy they were and that it’s not a “two-second job,” insisting they had to completely remove and disassemble the wheel. Only after asking several times did they finally tell me how long it would take, so I decided to go to another workshop.

I found a shop right in Manhattan, on 19th Street and 7th Avenue. I came in, the guys immediately took my bike, removed the wheel, and it turned out the wheel simply had very little sealant. They washed it, added fresh sealant, and the whole thing took 10 minutes — without any stories about how busy they were.

Bike and Spin is a great bike shop with AMAZING service!! I would rate them 10 stars if I could! I work in LIC only one day a week but use my bike 5 days a week to get to work, so when I found myself in LIC and needing bike service, I was dismayed that they said it would take 3 days to repair my bike. I couldn't be without a bicycle for a whole week! John offered me a LOANER BIKE for the week. Just like if you took your car to a dealer and they gave you a rental car for the time it took them to fix yours! I was blown away by that idea, and extremely grateful. When the bike wasn't ready on time due to additional parts needing to be ordered, John said I could keep the loaner bike for another few days and he'd meet me in Manhattan to swap the bikes after the repair was done. What amazing service! When my bike had more issues and needed another part replaced, John again met me in Manhattan to swap out my bike for the loaner! I trust that my bike is being well-taken care when it's at Bike and Spin. But even more importantly, I am astounded at the amazing level of service that John and his team provides to their clients.
