During the COVID-19 crisis, Boroughs of the Dead is generously offering virtual tours on Zoom. I have attended 3 of their tours and highly recommend them. The "Edgar Allan Poe in Greenwich Village" tour was my favorite because two tour guides teamed up and each brought their own personality to the tour. Their enthusiasm leaped through the Zoom conference and really gave life and emotion to the tour. To me, "The Magic and Mysticism of Central Park" and "The Ultimate Greenwich Village Ghost Tour" were both fun and informative, but I felt there was less of a personal touch and emotion than the Poe tour. Maybe the material was a bit too dense for me that day. Nevertheless, these tours are highly recommended. I believe I was in the minority of not feeling high emotion, because I read many, many other attendees' praise in the Zoom chat box at the conclusion of the tours. (Maybe I've been on too many Zooms and had a little fatigue.) All the tour guides are extremely well-prepared and happy to interact with guests. It's clear they love giving tours. I sincerely hope to attend an in-person tour the next time I'm in New York City. I'm really glad I found Boroughs of the Dead on Eventbrite. Thank you to Boroughs for providing these virtual tours when we're all stuck in the house. If these topics sound like your bag,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have so far been on 2 tours with this group and have enjoyed both of them. The best of them, in Greenwich Village, was very detailed, with a lot of fascinating tidbits about the area and the famous people who populated it (Anyone who has ever walked by that weird, empty, triangular building in the area will get a kick out of the reason why it remains uninhabited.) There's lots Aleister Crowley, Lovecraft, and Poe, as well as other interesting characters that once inhabited this city and well crafted tales the histories they created. The tour guide wove fact and fiction very well, even taking a few moments to read some specific literature tied to the location we were standing on or near. The two different tour guides were both very friendly and organized, and kept the group moving deftly through the busy streets of their tour routes. I really do recommend taking these tours, not just for some spooky tales, but also for an opportunity to learn another side...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBoroughs of the Dead is my favorite tour company period. I've been on a good chunk of their tours and none have ever disappointed me. Their conscientious ethos & feminist POVS are also a welcome shift from what I've generally experienced with most paranormal-centered tour companies. These tours are not about exploiting tragedies and real-life horrors, they are about educating folks about buried histories & overlooked legacies. Boroughs of the Dead has really opened my eyes as a New Yorker to numerous hidden layers of the city, and yes ghosts, who are still speaking out! Also, check out their...
