I had the unfortunate experience of purchasing a diamond ring from Chateau Jewelers & Gary Salvit. I cannot stress enough how disappointed I am with the entire ordeal. Not only did I receive an overpriced diamond that was falsely advertised as an Si1, but I also discovered several other troubling issues with the purchase.
First and foremost, the diamond I purchased was supposedly of Si1 clarity, as Gary Salvit assured me. The GIA paperwork shows the diamond is Si2 clarity. This misrepresentation is both unethical and deceitful, and it is unacceptable for a reputable jeweler to engage in such practices. I trusted Chateau Jewelers to provide accurate information about the quality of their products, but instead, I was deceived.
Adding insult to injury, the ring came with an appraisal that was egregiously inflated, over $20k for an Si2 stone (please let me know where you've seen such an expensive Si2 before). It is disheartening to think that Chateau Jewelers would attempt to boost the value of their products through such misleading means. This casts serious doubts on the integrity of their business practices and raises concerns about their overall credibility.
When I requested to see the original receipt for the purchase, Gary was unable to produce it. This is perplexing considering the fact that I had only bought the ring a few days earlier. The lack of proper documentation raises suspicions about the legitimacy of the transaction and further reinforces the impression that Chateau Jewelers and Gary Salvit are involved in questionable business practices.
I expected a certain level of professionalism, honesty, and transparency when dealing with a reputable jeweler like Chateau Jewelers. Unfortunately, my experience has left me feeling deceived and taken advantage of.
I strongly advise anyone considering making a purchase from Chateau Jewelers to exercise caution and thoroughly scrutinize every aspect of the transaction. Based on my personal encounter, I cannot recommend this establishment as a trustworthy source for fine jewelry. There are numerous other jewelers who prioritize honesty, transparency, and customer satisfaction, and it would be wise to explore those alternatives instead.
Chateau Jewelers deceptive practices, misrepresentation of product quality, inflated appraisals, and failure to produce necessary documentation are clear indicators of their unscrupulous behavior. As a consumer, I feel cheated and deeply disappointed by this experience, and I strongly urge others to steer clear of this establishment to avoid similar unpleasant encounters.
Not to mention the ring broke just a few months after purchasing it and luckily my wife realized before it potentially fell off and got lost forever.

Read moreMy wife wanted to update her wedding ring using our original diamond stone. My previous jeweler who was a family friend was a small operation in Chinatown that had shut down years earlier. I did not want to go through the process of searching for a new jeweler in that jungle or even attempt to deal with the undesirables in midtown. I kept pushing my wife off because I wanted to deal with someone I could trust and negotiate good deals with for quality jewelry. Around 10 years ago my wife lost the center ruby stone on her ruby ring and I had to file a claim. My insurance company gave me a list of jewelers that I could go to with the claim number to redo the ruby ring. This is when I first met Gary, the 2nd generation owner of Chateau Jewelers. He sorted us out with the ruby placement pretty easily and my wife and I went on with our lives. But when my wife stopped wearing her wedding ring recently, that's when it dawned on me to visit Chateau Jewelers in Forest Hills again to see if they could create a new wedding ring for my wife. If State Farm trusted Chateau, then that was a good reference for me. The experience was first class. Gary attended to us, assessed the old ring, asked my wife questions about what she envisioned on the new piece, etc. He immediately came back with many examples of what she desired. My wife lit up with joy. Gary has this knack of knowing what everybody wants. He has so much experience being raised by his parents in this business. The store is lovely, the staff are lovely. It's truly engaging and he hits it out of the park all the time. He gave us a good deal. My wife was so happy with her new ring that I asked Gary for earrings that could match the ring. He surprised us both with the most exquisite pair of earrings. My wife was so delighted that I asked him to design a necklace for her that matched the ring and earrings. We hit the trifecta with this guy. I would have paid 2-3 times more at any other jeweler. Gary has good energy, he's an expert in all things jewelry and he earned my trust. I traded in some diamond earrings with him and his quote to buy them from me was spot on. I knew he was a gentlemen when he paid me what they were worth. He is buying and selling at fair prices. Chateau is trusted by the national insurance companies and has been in business for many, many years. I will never have to go to Manhattan again for jewelry. In fact, people in Manhattan should come to Chateau to...
Read moreI had a very bad experience here. Please go elsewhere. Customer service and communication are sorely lacking. Gary and company are very attentive when you are in the shop looking to purchase which we have done several times throughout the years. The problem comes when you need repairs. It got to the point where after countless calls and having my jewelry in the shops for weeks and months even I would have my husband call because I felt Gary and company were dismissive and it turned me off from buying new pieces from them. Ultimately I chose to pick up my jewelry and take my business elsewhere. The long and short of it is that my husband purchased a bracelet from there and it had a delicate clasp which snagged constantly and broke right away. It was fixed a few times but would always catch and break. It would literally take weeks and months to fix. I took in two gold bangles with a screw clasp and he said he was working on it and months later nothing. The last and most disappointing situation involved a custom made gold necklace that had discs with my kids initials and birth dates. It was three chains connected and they would constantly tangle. He suggested a gold bar to hold them in place. It took months to complete. I was so excited to finally wear the necklace. It broke right away. We took it back and again weeks passed. After sending an email to express my dismay I got no response. I finally sent my husband in because sadly I thought perhaps they’d be more responsive to him. I ultimately decided to give up on waiting. The most disappointing aspect is the lack of customer service and communication. Fixing my jewelry was clearly not a priority. So now I am left with four lovely gold pieces that hold great sentiment value for me that I can not wear. As a customers it’s disappointing. I...
