Clove is my single favorite hair appointment in all of New York City. I have been seeing Giovanna and Alex for years because something about the way they cut my hair just cannot be replicated elsewhere. I am someone who opts for a simple blunt cut and you would think that a cut like that should be universal and something I could get at Supercuts, but seeing Giovanna has completely convinced me otherwise. She understands that it’s not just about the number of inches off the hair— she understands the importance of how you want your hair to feel and fall across your shoulders. She also is incredibly patient and respects the sensitivity people have around learning what the right amount to cut off is. I have never once left the salon wishing I hadn’t let her convince me what would be the right amount. She always knows what’s right and always has the clients best interest at heart while respecting the sensitivity people have around trying to maintain length while prioritizing hair health. In addition to the perfect haircut, the experience at clove is one of pure relaxation. The calming vibe of the salon, nestled on quiet Ave b, and the selection of refreshments and Aveda products instantly put me at ease. I dream of the shampoo bowl where Giovanna and Alex really work their magic lathering the incredibly scented Aveda line and administering a head massage that lets me turn my brain off and bliss out. I absolutely adore Clove Hair Salon and have had the pleasure of working with both Alex and Giovanna. Alex is currently my stylist, and he’s truly a master when it comes to color. I have dark brown hair and a lot of grey at the front, and I’m always striving for a beautiful blonde look. Not only does Alex expertly lighten my hair, but he also ensures my greys are perfectly covered with a dark permanent color. What I appreciate most is how he listens to my preferences—he cuts just enough to keep my hair healthy without taking away too much length, which can be hard to find in a stylist. I always leave feeling confident, not just because of the incredible results, but also from the fantastic conversations with Alex and the entire team at Clove. I've been to Clove twice so far (my usual haircut cadence being once or twice a year) - the first being my first cut since moving to NYC, which turned out to be my favorite haircut of all time! I came in with an idea ("half-mullet, half-long") and Alex delivered above and beyond my imagination. I was originally looking for a salon that handles curly hair well (I have very dense, fine-ish hair that is super springy in some parts, smooth in others) and Alex did a wonderful job reading my hair's direction and giving me styling ideas for the curly long side. The second time I went for the exact same cut because I liked it so much, and Alex knew how to read his own cutting well. I also really like the Aveda product smells (very gentle but pleasant) and sustainability efforts!
