No need to shop here when there are so many other options! I bought some groceries, including cheese. Took it home and the part covered by the wrapper was completely covered in mold. I walked back and brought the cheese with me to show the manager - he didn't even apologize. I told him I'd like to get a replacement and have it taken off my bill for being sold spoiled food and the inconvenience of having to come all the way back. He said no, I could just get a replacement cheese but not taken off my bill. When I explained to him that that would be a courtesy in exchange for my trouble & having to make two trips, he said he was "already giving me free cheese..." No he was not! I wasn't taking home the spoiled cheese - I was just getting the one cheese I already paid for. He didn't seem to understand why I asked him to take it off the bill (as an apology, customer service, and because I had to make two trips after being sold bad food), and when I told him I'd just go to one of the other dozen supermarkets in a 4 block radius in the future, he shrugged and walked away. Especially baffling as during my earlier shop I had heard a stocker talking about how they were struggling and needed money for improvements to get back customers... All in all, whatever, but when there are so many other great markets that understand customer service and make an effort just up and down the street...? Not going to spend my money...
Read moreOn 1/30/21 at 1:10 pm, we shopped for groceries. The store was busy, but not overly crowded. While there every worker was busy, very busy with their assigned duties and such. And, to that I had the fortune of running into a yuoung.man that was engaged in wiping down shopping carts, instructing workers, returning merchandise and such. Just at the end of my shopping, I approached the check out lines, and there he stood again. I looked to see which line was open and which line I should select, when the same young man invited me to an aisle for checkout. I thanked him for his assistance and asked if he was a manager. To which he replied with a twinkling in his eyes yes. I told him that I was not stalking him, but could not help by pointing out that each time I saw him, just how hard he was working and hiw.muxh I appreciated him coming to my aid and suggesting the best check out lane. I told him that my mother would always say you never know who is watching you. With that the moral was to never let your behavior be anything but good and something to be proud of. I regret not asking his name necause I usually do, but I know that he had beautiful brown hues skin color, about 5" 9, and just the epitome of class and professional standing. Thank you again, all employees of Steve's 9th Street Market and also to the manager referenced in this...
Read moreThis is a solid neighborhood supermarket, some prices are better than other nearby options; some are not.
Management is pretty good and responsive about questions and requests.
The lower than average ranking is for the lobster tank located in the deli area. Those aquariums of pure misery have been bothering me since I was a little kid. Cramming living things - ones that actually have advanced nervous systems and are far more intelligent than most people realize, is bad enough. They sit there, with their claws tightly bound, with nowhere to move and nothing to eat. And then, if and when purchased. they're dropped alive in boiling water where they are scalded to death, through at least five minutes of extreme agony.
Please get rid of the lobster tanks. Virtually no other grocery in the area has one. After discussing, local friends and have to decided there are enough good options around to avoid this C-town until the tanks are...
