I've been coming to Cutting Edge for years now but I think they might've had a change in ownership or management recently as a lot of the stylists no longer seem to be there. I used to always go to Anthony and he gave me great layers and would always remember me even though I didn't get my hair cut that often, but he was inconsistent with my bangs so I've tried a few other stylists there since then.

This review is more about my most recent experiences with Perry. He's very opinionated and will not hesitate in telling you what he thinks you should do. I recently found out I have cancer and since starting chemo, have started losing a lot of hair. The last time I washed my hair, it became extremely tangled and matted because of all the loose hairs and I was unable to detangle the mat, and the only thing to be done was to cut it all off, which was extremely distressing for me as I've had long hair all my life. And since I've been coming here for years, I decided to come here to just shave my hair off since I'm losing so much anyway.

My friends came with me to support me and even though the salon was empty when we came in, Perry had them sit in the corner and wouldn't let them talk to me during the cut, even though I didn't move my head when talking (he said he didn't want me to talk because he needs my head to stay in one position). I explained to him what happened with the matted hair and with chemo and he didn't seem to believe me and told me that I needed to take better care to not let that happen again. As if I wasn't focusing all my energy on just trying to survive.

In the end, Perry gave me a pixie cut because he said I haven't gotten to the point where I need to shave it all. He said if I needed to shave it, I could just buy a shaver and do it myself at home. I explained to him that I didn't trust myself to do so evenly and wanted to come somewhere I trusted and he very pointedly explained to me that the salon has a policy of giving stylish cuts. That you only go there if you want to look nice. And that if I just wanted something easy, I don't need to go there.

Basically I spent $80 plus tip at somewhere that I used to trust and go to regularly, only to be to get lectured at, have my cancer diagnosis ignored, and for my friends to be treated rudely.

I will not be...

I had an incredible first experience with Nicky, and I can't recommend him enough! From the start, he truly listened to what I wanted but also challenged some of my preconceived notions about hair in the best way possible. I originally thought I just needed highlights since I only cared about the front pieces, but Nicky helped me understand that the back is just as important for an overall balanced look.

Before the appointment, he spent 40 minutes with me in a free consultation, patiently walking me through the best approach to achieve my vision. I was hesitant about cutting layers, but he explained how they would give me more volume at the roots, even with my fine hair—and he was absolutely right!

The final result? Even better than I imagined! My full-head balayage and cut ($500) was worth every penny. It's amazing how hair can be a form of self-expression, and when it aligns with how I feel inside, the confidence I’ve gained far exceeds the cost. If you're looking for an image refresh or a stylist who truly cares about their craft, I highly...

I’ve been following Carson for the past 7 years and he has always put extreme care, dedication, patience, and passion into his work. He has helped me (Asian with jet black hair) achieve all my hair coloring goals including: blonde balayage, platinum blonde foilyage, colorful unicorn hair that naturally blends out from the roots, to now a subtle brunette color that brightens up my complexion. He listens to the style of cut that I’m looking to achieve and considers how l typically like to style my hair and my face shape to give me the perfectly layered, bouncy, and face framing haircut. I had my most recent appointment with Carson at this salon and was pleased with the cleanliness and spaciousness. The receptionist was kind and welcoming and the other stylists also greeted me with warmness as I was guided inside. As usual, Carson did not disappoint and I will forever stay loyal and support him...

This is the only place in the New York area that I’ll get my hair done at. Heck, if I moved, I think I would still come back to NYC just to get my hair done. Marco has always done a fantastic job and I always get SO many compliments on my hair. I’ve referred people and they’ve all said the same thing: best haircut ever. I moved to BK and tried a new place and immediately went back so Marco could fix it. It’s also very affordable. Most places are hard to get a cut that isn’t more than $100 and here it’s less which is nice too. Most of the time I ramble because I don’t know what I want and Marco gives me recommendations based on my head/styling/hair type. As far as COVID they have so many precautions - no waiting room, taking temperature and they have a face shield for you, not just the stylist. TLDR; go here and you’ll never worry about haircuts again.

I don’t do reviews but this spot deserves 5 stars! Extremely happy with their service. Very friendly staffs, and I got the most gentle relaxing shampoo & massage session. And A+++ hair cut that I’m so glad that I tried this plce. I used to go to a Japanese hair salon but due to COVID they closed down permanently, so I was looking for a new salon. I was hesitant in the beginning to be honest because the price is on the expensive side (if you were thinking about regular Chinese hair salons around the neighborhood). But Anthony immediately understood exactly what I wanted and my hair came out better than I had imagined. He was polite and attentive to your hair needs and very professional with his skills. I wanted a thinned out, shaggy and choppy medium length bob haircut with texture, and I got what I wanted. Happy customer :)
