East 67th Street Market (btw 1st & York Ave) — Local services in New York

I just moved to the UES and was so shocked by the prices and the quality at the grocery stores in this neighborhood. I'd thought I was going to be doomed to hauling home groceries home on the subway from other neighborhoods, but I think this market solved my problem. The produce is all local, fresh, great quality and reasonable priced. I also found fresh bread, chicken and whole coffee beans - this market will be getting a regular weekend...

Disappointed. The produce here is NOT what you expect from a farmers market (local, in season, recently picked). It’s just one of those corner fruit stands surrounded by other vendors. The packaged lettuce was from Canada and wilted, the lemons, limes and avocados aren’t from around here and the cauliflower was moldy and the same price as organic at whole...

We’ve been going here for years. It started out well; fresh and pretty fairly priced. The last two times we went we had to either return or throw out rotten produce. Also the prices are no bargain.

The booth with the pickles, olives, sauerkraut etc is very good though.
