It took me 5 months to gather the courage to try Crossfit, and I couldn't have chosen a better box to start. After months of research there were some things I learned before my first class that, to be quite frank, terrified me: constantly varied, high intensity, functional movement; military-style metabolic conditioning and strength training, Olympic lifting as a girl among men, etc. Not only that, my personal trainer recommended AGAINST it - probably for selfish reasons.
Like the masochist I've discovered myself to be, I decided to try a Free Intro class (they offer them twice per week) and was blown away by the friendly environment, knowledgeable coaches, professionalism, and fun atmosphere. Eric, the owner, helps to ease your fears while constantly pushing you, correcting form, etc. I couldn't sit for 3 days after that Intro class... and I was hooked.
EVF requires the 2-week On-Ramp program for newbies that need to learn the ropes. Leave your ego at the door. Even if you're a life-long athlete, the On-Ramp is required (and quite useful!). I "graduated" from my On-Ramp in August and have been Crossfitting 5x/week since then and I could not be happier. There are different membership packages you can buy into, or drop-in options as well. They offer a fantastic Mobility WOD called Supple Leopard that helps with the stretching and deep massage aspect of conditioning your muscles. They even offer classes for Youth, non-Crossfit group exercise, and have open gym hours. All of the trainers and staff are incredible!
I feel proud of myself after finishing each WOD (Workout of the Day), and am always happy to submit my body to torture mainly because that means being surrounded and motivated by a community of badass athletes whom I now consider friends.
For years I told myself that I can't, but now, I have never felt more capable, strong, and comfortable in my own skin. I am SO THANKFUL to have discovered EVF Performance and look forward to challenging myself and becoming an overall healthy person. Can you tell I'm drinking the...
Read moreJoined this box since April after moving to the neighborhood. Everything turned out to be beyond expectation. Location, programs and especially the coaches and crossfitters there.
Location - at the crossing of 85th and York. Convenient to everywhere. By trains, by buses, by ferry or just by walking through the lovely UES.
Programs - daily rotating programs cover all the muscle groups piece by piece scientifically. Saturday partner workouts are a âsummary of all muscles youâve been training everydayâ, with a sweet twist of working in groups. The sheer joy and fulfillment after accomplishing an intense workout with your teammate is the best way to start the weekend with. The cherry on top is the Olympic weightlifting classes on Saturdays. Systematic (and best) way to improve every single detail if you want to lift more weights.
Coaches - knowledgeable but super friendly coaches give very clear instructions to every movement, and personalize moves for you if you need to scale down (or up). With their friendliness, youâll feel like you are trained and guided by that super fit friend of yours.
Crossfitters - if you are reading this review, you probably already know that CrossFit is half workout and half community building. Personally I found a group of very close friends in a short period of time (surprisingly), including regular gym goers or random drop-in-ers. Doesnât really matter where you are, youâll just find a group of similarly minded people sharing the same fitness interest gathering at the same location.
Simply the best box...
Read moreWorst excuse for a human being, being a Yoga instructor, I was at a private corner doing some big stretches together with weights when a guy who appears to work there walk down to the corner where i was stretching, meanwhile 'he has being working out this entire time clogging up his ''dense brain'' from his workout asked if I can please stop stretching and wear my shoe because of hygiene reasons otherwise he will call the police to which I responded please go ahead.
Firstly, like everyone else, my shoes as you can imagine has been all of the city, unlike my feets, a pathetic excuse to to piss me off, even the guy that was right next to me on a different bench press was like " who really care's'' (like most poor excuse for a human being, this guy in question was projecting and again, from first impression, I thought he was very dense)
Now, the important point is besides being a person whom has come to workout, I did not aggravate this guy and neither did he approach me kindly, should he had approach me differently then I am certain I would have a different perspective of him and the reason I choose to leave was simply because I cannot allow another person to project their emotions into my day or maybe I don't get it, maybe he was projecting raciallyđ¤ˇđżââď¸
Should the police arrive, are was he going to say that '' he called because I wasn't wearing my shoes while stretching'' rather laughable, yet very dense.
What is the point of this review? why is it important? It's simply because this was my unbiased experience of this place, so...
