Wow!!! Can I just say how blown away I am that I came and had to write two reviews (one on here and one on Yelp) - the service is just absolutely incredible and the stylists here are so kind and dedicated! I came here for a digital perm (knowing nothing, bringing a vague, blurry picture and guessing as to what size rollers) and Jenny worked with me for 6 hours on what should have been a 4 hour appointment but I was being a huge pain! They wouldn't let me leave until I was happy and I can now verifiably say, āI am thrilled with how my hair came out!ā They even brought me Chex mix and tea when the appointment went on and having never gotten a perm in my life and being incredibly particular and vague at the same time they managed to get me the look I wanted! Lastly, my hair actually still feels healthy (somehow healthier???) after the perm which is just a testament to Jenny's mastery and expertise. If you're like me and envious of those curly locks a la Rachel in Crazy Rich Asians or (insert any gorgeous celebrity with any kind of textured hair) look no further and the prices are INCREDIBLY reasonable for the work they do (trust me, I'm a grad student and we are broke). Lastly, I really appreciate how easy it was to coordinate and book the appointment, the location is easy to find, and nowhere else have I gone to a hair salon where the stylists orders lunch, it arrives after you ask them to re-do the tedious perm to get the desired effect and they let it get cold so they can do your hair! True dedication.
PS something I wish I knew and evidently learned the hard way: a cold perm small rollers are not the same thing as a digital perm small rollers! The former will give you a classic 70s perm while the latter will give you beautiful wavy locks. The large digital rollers create a wonderful body wave that is very subtle and curled at the edges.
100/100 will come back and only seek out Jenny for not just perms but all...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI really needed a hair cut bc my hair was like a bird's nest according to my sister. I've been trying to look for a go-to hair salon but had difficulties choosing a set place. Luckily, through yelp, I found Hair 101. It's located right on Main Street so parking is a little bit on the difficult side. I came on a weekday so it was easier but I still had to pay the muni-meter. I thought 1 hour would be enough but it actually wasn't so when it came close and past the one hour mark, I was actually getting anxious of a ticket. (Luckily I didn't get a ticket even if my time passed) Moral of the story: if you park on a muni-meter area, give yourself about 1.5 hours.
I had called earlier to see if there was a wait to get a cut, and there wasn't. Once I got there, I was brought to have my hair washed. The guy that washed my hair did such a thorough job. It's the longest my hair has ever been washed at a salon. Record set at about 20minutes o_o yeah I know, pretty amazing. He shampooed, conditioned, and conditioned once more. When I thought it was over, nope, more shampooing, more rinsing, more conditioning.
For my haircut, although I don't speak Chinese, I had no problem telling them how I wanted my hair done. My hairstylist was a guy and he was the first guy to ever cut my hair or do anything with my hair. I was hesitant at first but man, he does it better than other female hairstylist I've been to my past 20 years. He took his time and he made sure I liked it. I came out of the salon feeling brand new!
I think their prices for a cut range from $25-$30. But if you mention yelp, you get 20% off. My haircut came out to be $25 ($1 extra bc I used my credit card). But I think this place will be my go-to salon now. I already told my sister about this place and she's...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI booked a light ash brown balayage at this salon for my nursing school graduation, quoted $180-$210 via Instagram DM after confirming twice. They noted lighter colors could cost $270 but assured my choice fell in the lower range. When I arrived, I waited over an hour past my appointment time. The stylist, disregarding our prior discussions, asked about my color, then raised the price to $270, claiming it was a "lighter" shade... I questioned the increase, and I got no clear explanation. With graduation days away and a long commute, i had no choice but to proceed.
The result was a awful gray color, far from the balayage I requested. it was light gray from the top of the roots all the way down. I raised my concerns three times, but she brushed me off, telling me to wash it and wait two days for it to "settle," without offering a fix... At checkout, the bill inexplicably rose to $297 cause of "card tax charges" and the stylist abruptly asked How much tip do you want to leave? despite how obviously distressed i already was. I emphasized the urgency for my graduation but she only suggested returning next week, showing close to zero empathy.
This salonās bait-and-switch pricing, poor communication, and complete disregard for my needs were outrageous. Leaving with the wrong color before a major milestone was ridiculous. Avoid this place to save yourself from their deceptive practices and disappointment. i wish i could give this...
