If I could give this gym zero stars I would. I was unhappy with my current gym so I made the mistake of coming here. I was distracted by the smoothie bars, bright lights, physical therapist station, the nice fish tank and the cleanliness of this gym. However, my nightmare only began during the few days that I did use this facility. The equipment was old and rusted and the people were not friendly. To my dismay, I saw men dressed as women walking around the gym. while I tried to ignore it, on my first week at this gym it was just too disturbing. Especially given the fact that I asked specifically before joining if they had any of this stuff going on or if men were being allowed in the girls locker room and was told “absolutely not”. Given the lies told to me by the staff in the front just to make a few dollars, at this point, I felt uncomfortable and I did not want to further go to this gym. Harbor fitness park slope made me fear for my safety at the possibility that the men dressed as women at this gym were going to follow me into the women’s locker room. When I tried to cancel my membership, the people in the front tried to hold my credit card number hostage!!! I told the staff at Harbor fitness that I was uncomfortable at their gym, and that it was not for me. I was afraid of being targeted or labeled wrongfully for not wanting to be possibly followed by a man into the women's locker room and they did not care. Thankfully, after writing 3 very painful emails explaining my dissatisfaction and speaking with my credit card company to block them from charging my account, harbor fitness finally cancelled my account. Harbor fitness park slope did not care about my safety (especially as a new member) and will do anything just to make a few dollars at your expense.
In response to the despicable person who replied to my review, shame on you!!!!! Shame on you and harbor fitness for putting REAL women last and not caring about the safety of women to appease men PRETENDING to be women!!!...
Read moreBest gym membership I’ve had in NYC, and I’ve lived in Brooklyn for 15 years. I’ve been a member at this gym for almost 3 years now and what I love about this place is a) the saunas b) the classes and c) the non-commercial, run by actual people who care about fitness and health vibe. The staff is always welcoming. There are eucalyptus towels at the ready. The people who come to work out here feel like a community that generally keeps the place respectful and clean. I never have a difficult time finding space or the exact equipment I want to use. There is equipment that I’ve learned to use here I’d never seen in another gym. The classes are my main go-to: I frequent the yoga and Pilates classes and as someone who has been taking yoga for a long long time, I can say these teachers are great if you’re looking for a challenge and equally great if you’re brand new. There’s also many other boot camp and toning classes as well as cycling classes and they all come with the membership. It’s a lot less expensive than a yoga membership anywhere else AND you get the whole gym too. And the sauna. There are saunas in both the men’s and women’s locker rooms (which also have showers) and I never have an issue claiming a space in the womens’ (If I don’t have it all to myself.) The saunas definitely are a part of my survival in the Brooklyn winter. Oh and there’s smoothies and protein snackies on the way out :))) The hours are plentiful, the people are nice and down to earth, if you’re looking for a down-to-earth place to work out to the best of your ability, I highly recommend...
Read moreOverall I like Harbor Fitness. The machines are almost always working and feel well taken care of. The gym floor is laid out well with room enough to move even when it is busy. They have also been making upgrades, which is nice to see. Here's a few things I would love to see change: First, the towels are kind of on the old side and don't do a good job drying after a shower anymore. It would be great if new towels were rotated in more often. Second thing, Can you get rid of that pointless chest fly machine in the corner and just get another one of the adjustable butterfly/back machines (like the one next to it)? it's always being used and sometimes I can't even get on if I run out of time. You have multiples of other machines, why not the one everyone wants to use? Third, is there anything you can do about the men's showers? it's the only part of the gym that feels a little nasty. I'm not saying you don't clean it, they just always look/feel kinda dirty. Maybe it's time for a renovation. Finally, is it possible to put one of the water bottle water fountains downstairs? I appreciate the one you installed upstairs, but it's a pain there being only one. Even with the relatively small issues I have, I want to make it clear that I think this gym is worth the price, and I enjoy being a...
