J-Braiding — Local services in New York

If I can give zero stars I would, now don’t give me wrong I used to love this place but last night did it for me when I went to get my hair braided. I made an appointment 2 days in advance via text, I sent her a picture of the hairstyle that I wanted ( cornrow in the front and box braid at the back) she asked me what length? I told her mid back. she said okay that will be $150 and I provide the hair.. ok kool that was fine with me she said I needed 3-4 packages which I brought 4 however when she reach quarter way of my braiding she said I will be needing 3 more packs and I should go to the beauty supply store before it closes Which I did. she continued to braid however when she reach the part that I wanted to be cornrow she complained that the hair that I brought was not good for Cornrowing and if it was ok for her to use her suggested hair which costs $5 each I said sure, She proceed to used 2 packs of it. It’s almost 12 am by the time she’s finished and I ask her okay what’s do I owe you? she looked me dead in the face and said $180 ...now excuse me miss I know I’m not great at maths but I know how to do simple addition and if u said that the hairstyle would be $150 and the 2 packs of hair was $5 each..isn’t that $160? She starts to say “oh she didn’t know how long it was gonna take and that my hair is long... “ like huh?? you are a hairdresser, how can you not know how long it takes to braid a client’s hair and I told you via messages how long I wanted it.. plus when u first started braided why didn’t you say something like “hey I know I told you this price at the beginning but I miscalculated?” I would have respected you for that but to try and raise the price after you already said how much is was is Bull.. I will not be going back there nor would I recommend anyone to go there.

I’ve just left Joy for the 3rd time in about 4 months and shes my new braider. Shes has a pleasant atmosphere and persona and she works quick and neat. Shes done passion twist for me twice, each different sizes and lengths and they both came out nice and she just did my schmedium box braids to my waist in about 5 hours which i love and now its 2 days later and i can move them and their loose( which always takes about a week for me). I told her I was tender headed and she braided softer and no headache. I definitely recommend her and her prices...

Joy hooked me up very quickly. Took 5 hours for triangle box braids and we added water wave crochet hair to the ends so it was curly and added volume. What I appreciated the most was the fact that she realized I didn’t want my edges waxed lol. Most people braid so tight that you feel like your brains will come out but she was tender to my precious edges and scalp. Clean workspace, price was right, and great service. Would definitely refer her. I would post a picture...
