I had the most bizarre and terrifying experience at this establishment today. I was in the neighborhood and wanted to get my eyebrows threaded and found this business on Google maps. I went in and asked if they had availability for eyebrow threading. I was the only customer there and there was one woman working as both reception and technician. She said yes, she could take me for eyebrow threading and asked for my name and number which I gave her. She then asked for my email and address and I told her I wasn’t comfortable giving out more of my contact information because of privacy reasons and that I get far too many emails. She said that was fine and finished setting up the appointment in her computer and took me back and had me lay on the table.
After she finished my right eyebrow as she was about to start on the left, her phone rang and she said it was her boss, and she needed to take it. I said that was no problem. She answered her phone, and apparently her boss asked to be put on speakerphone to speak to me.
The boss started yelling at me saying that she needed my email address to set up the appointment and I couldn’t proceed unless I gave her more of my contact information. I told her I wasn’t comfortable giving out my contact information and that we had already started. She told me she couldn’t give me a receipt without my email and I told her that was fine and I did not need a receipt. Then she told me I could not pay by card and I would need to pay by cash and I told her that was fine as well.
She continued to yell through the speakerphone and told me that she was a business who paid taxes and that she needed my email address in order to pay her taxes. I was very flustered, and I told her that the yelling through the speakerphone was making me very uncomfortable as I was lying there on the table and she told me that she was uncomfortable because she didn’t have my email address.
She said that she wouldn’t allow me to have the service even though I was already halfway through the service with one eyebrow done. I was very frightened from all the yelling and bizarre speakerphone harassment so I said it was fine and I could leave and I got off the table to put my shoes on.
The technician then took her off speakerphone and said something to her, and then offered to finish the service if I would pay cash. She finished the service and I paid cash and left, and it was a very bizarre and frightening experience.
I’ve gotten my eyebrows threaded roughly once a month every month in New York City for the last 15 years and I have never had this happen before. It also cost about $10 more than I usually pay on top of all that. I feel bad for the woman who works there.
Truly bizarre — I have never been to a threading salon, nail salon, coffee shop, restaurant, grocery store, or any other place of business where the owner demands my email address via speakerphone in midway through the service. Nor have I ever been told by any other business that my email address was needed for me to pay by card or for them to complete...
Read more*EDIT 11/16/24 LASH LIFT REVIEW (Note: I was not compensated/offered anything in exchange for this review! All opinions are honest and my own!)
As per my last review, I have now been coming to La Virtu for waxing services for almost a year (still love!)
2 sessions ago, I decided to try the lash lift, and it’s been a game changer for me. I’d never had one before, but Nav (love her!!), explained every step of the process along the way, and it felt very easy and relaxing.
I have very short, sparse, & stick straight down Asian lashes. Even with a curler, all types of mascara immediately get on my lower lid when I blink, giving me a raccoon look.
I read the treatment should last max 6 weeks, but for me it lasted ~8! I also read fallout is a risk, but I have not experienced any myself! I am a couple weeks into my second treatment, and the results are just as beautiful.
Overall, my lashes feel so much healthier now that I don’t have to use the curler, and my mascara applies beautifully. No more clumps, or heaviness from having to compensate with multiple layers, and no more raccoon eyes!
Thank you Nav and Anna! (Before and After pics posted. After is today from second ~ week after second treatment!)
Original Review from April 2024 I highly recommend La Virtu!
I’ve been coming here since this past Winter after painful experiences with other places around the city, and will only be coming here in the future!
Both Ana and Nav are the absolute best at what they do as well as so sweet and lovely to talk to.
The studio is clean, inviting and very professional.
My experiences have been quick, virtually painless, and since coming here I haven’t had nearly...
Read moreThis review is seriously overdue (Sorry!!!). I got my eyebrows done at the end of August. I am aware that I am very picky and overly cautious, especially after having my eyebrows messed up in the past. After seeing the social media posts for these services, I knew this was where I needed to try. I am so glad I did. My eyebrows looked stunning. Not too thick and not too thin. I appreciate how they were made to suit my face shape, rather than merely following trends. My confidence went up a ton. Also, my pain tolerance is high so this is not a concern of mine, but if you are someone worried about pain, I have never had a more gentle eyebrow wax in my life. My skin looked barely irritated or red, which I appreciated as someone with sensitive skin. Excellent service and work! Wonderful experience! I...
