I decided to try Lunula for the first time last weekend as it looked like a lovely salon, but I had a very disappointing experience. I decided to get a basic pedicure ($49 but $51 including tax).
When I sat down, the woman doing my pedicure wasn't overly friendly, appeared moody and almost like the last thing she wanted to be doing was a pedicure. She was rough when cutting my big toenails and cleaning them at the side - to the point where I now think I've got an infection in my right big toe. It's red and swollen at the side and quite painful to touch.
I decided to have normal polish, but as she painted the first coat, I noticed she smudged one toe but didn't seem bothered about re-painting it. As she went to start the second coat, I pointed it out and she just painted straight over the smudge. When she was finished, I sat with my feet under the dryer for about 20 minutes, I felt awkward but decided to have a proper look at my toenails, and sure enough, there were other smudges and they just weren't painted very well - she noticed me looking and asked if everything was ok, so I politely pointed out the smudges - again, she just painted straight over and after five more minutes of me sitting under the dryer, she said "you're ready now." I was really disappointed with the finished result but felt like I couldn't say anything as she was so moody. I paid $51 plus tip and left but on Monday I decided to call them and explain and ask if I could come in for a repaint, they said yes and I went straight after work. The lady on the desk didn't apologize for the fact that I now have what looks like an infection and wasn't even bothered about looking at the bad paint job, she tried to have me sit with the same lady for the repaint but I politely said I would prefer someone else do it. They passed me over to another member of staff, who appeared just as moody and pissed off to be painting my nails. I explained my big toe was sore, she could see it was red, yet she still used a toothpick to remove excess varnish as she was painting them!
Overall, just a horrible, uncomfortable experience and certainly not worth $51. Looks like a lovely salon from the outside but I really would not recommend going there until they hire some new staff who actually know how to paint nails at a...
Read moreTL;DR - Lovely experience, not really within my price range anymore. In Yelp terms, $$$$.
I had just started going here regularly when it was still Dashing Diva. I loved the atmosphere, the staff, and the services. It was already on the higher side cost wise, but well worth it. Most of their tools are disposable and they took care to leave space between people and keep the plan spotless. The music and even what they'd put on the TV screen was soothing. I knew the transition to Lunula was coming, but I didn't expect it to be as significant as it was. I appreciate the effort to use non-toxic materials and the focus on the condition of feet/hands/skin, etc. However, the costs, in my opinion, soared for basically the same services. As a few other folks mentioned, the pedicure situation is uncomfortable. I have back issues that made it difficult, uncomfortable, and painful to maintain the positions required for the pedicure. If your back is in great shape, you may not even notice it and I envy your fabulous spine. Also, I felt awkward watching my person carry over this tub full of water. I almost got up and helped. I worried about them having to carry all that weight when the faucets they had before seemed so much more practical. I recommend this place if you have the disposable...
Read moreMake sure to review their menu of services carefully before booking. Basic manicure/ pedicure does not include polish. This was not really my cup of tea. For your pedicure, they bring a fancy bucket over with water and add a half lid to put your feet up. Really hard to keep your feet up while they're working on them. The bucket is flimsy and just weird. Had to focus on my positioning to make sure I didn't flip the thing over. Couldn't really relax. For the pricing, this felt very underwhelming. Although it did not happen to me directly, I overheard the constant promotion of their products to clients. I believe I met the owner, they seemed a little pompous & I didn't feel too welcome. The nail polish collection is limited as they use a special kind. I chose white for my feet and the brightest they had looks like milky thin layers. I feel better going to Greenpoint Nail Salon down the block. The ladies doing your service are very nice but they seem to be following a list of lines to say. IDK. It all felt superficial and... weird and not worth $80 for one pedi (including tip) in my humble opinion.
BTW: No acrylic tips here, only mani pedi reg...
