I only ate here once about 6:35 PM on a Thursday night to get out of the rain on my way home. This a small place for a diner that is Rough and Rowdy. I sat at an empty booth as the main dining room was almost full. There is a small bar and dining room in the back. I was quickly helped with the menu. I ordered a large veggie burrito as there where many Spanish items on the menu. The table / booth in front of me had 3 good nice people enjoying themselves loudly and the table / booth across the one small aisle had 4 good nice people enjoying themselves loudly. I used the rest room. Graffiti is all over the walls is not good and the bathroom is not clean. Paint over the graffiti with a good water based primer at the end of the night - it will be ready to go in the morning. About 10 minutes later I got served. I told the waitress I wanted to move to the back dining room and stood up holding the burrito plate to move back. I did not mention noise but it was too much noise to eat. She said "There is an event happening at 7:00 PM and the room might fill up fast". I said OK I am going back there. I carried the plate and she carried the water and utensils. The room was empty with just a bartender and a worker. Nobody else mentioned an "event". I sat in the back anyway - last table away from the bar. Honestly the food has to be good to keep paying for the staff and restaurant up keep/ rent / utilities etc. The food costs and the way that food is cooked is usually the least expensive thing in most restaurants. The burrito was large wrapped in tin foil served on a tiny plate? How do you eat a large burrito on a tiny plate without making an overflow mess? You can not. I asked for a large plate. I got one right away. The burrito was mediocre. The black beans obviously came from a can and where not fully cooked - crunchy. So not good. I have tried many veggie burritos since moving back to New York over a decade ago. Usually good to great with added cauliflower, broccoli and rice on the side or in the burrito etc. Yea it's a diner but it could have been good. So minimal on the veggies and no rice. I finished up, paid and left at 7:05 PM. Two people showed up to the event and they where at the bar - not at a table. 2 stars for an exhausted effort by the staff in an exhausting loud...
Read moreTLDR: AVOID!!! Broken piece of plate within my food that chipped my molar. They were unresponsive and made me deal with THEIR insurance to reimburse my emergency dental bills.
Eating here has been one of the most traumatic food experiences I’ve ever had. My gf and I dined in here for dinner and took back a leftover burger. While eating it, I bit into a big piece of a broken plate that was hidden inside the patty itself. This immediately crushed the edge of my molar clean off. Upon digging through the remaining food, I found another piece of broken dinnerware, which looks a lot like their brown cups. The sound of my molar crushing off is something I’m not going to forget, and I had to receive emergency dental care the morning after, which was during my working hours.
I immediately called the establishment and am met with a manager who laughs me off. She gives me the email of the owners—great. After emailing them, they tell me they would “look into it immediately” and get back to me “as soon as possible”. I’m then met with radio silence for TWO AND A HALF WEEKS. Only when I threatened them with legal action did they decide it was appropriate to get back to me telling me they can’t reimburse me and that I would have to go through their insurance. Cue another week of waiting until I received a call from their insurance to start a claim with them.
First off, why do I have to waste my time dealing with YOUR insurance when this entire ordeal was a result of YOUR negligence as an establishment?
Furthermore, why am I the one who has to front an almost $1,000 emergency dental bill for over a month with absolutely no response, reassurance, or ounce of empathy from your establishment? This is absolutely ironic from an establishment that tries so hard to seem family oriented, when in reality, you care no more of your customer than any big corporation.
I will never eat here again, and if you care about food safety, I’d advise you avoid...
Read moreThe staff here is incredibly rude and the opposite of helpful. We came in last night as a group of 7. We were never greeted, the guy just asked how many people we were and when we told him we were 7 people he shook his said and basically said "pshhh, good luck". We originally then asked if we could split into 2 booths, but quickly realized that the bar section had an alcove in the corner with 5 open chairs that wrapped around the bar to more seats. The couple that was already seated at the bar on the corner even mentioned to us that they were leaving soon which would give us 7 seats all together at an otherwise empty bar. We asked another one of the staff if we could do that instead, and they said something along the lines of "whatever makes you happy", but when the original guy came back he asked us why we would think it would work when it's only 5 open seats. We tried to explain to him that the couple was leaving soon and we would have 7 seats but he ignored us and just shook his head while just looking at us.
It's one thing if we were a big loud drunk group coming in and making a scene, but that's not what we were. We were a calm, quieter group that was just on the larger side, and we had no help from the staff in trying to make it work. The guy never addressed us again as we stood there awkwardly, eventually we just decided to leave because we truly did not feel welcome there. This is the first time I haven't felt welcome in my own home since moving to Greenpoint 5 years ago. The biggest disappointment honestly is just your location, because you guys do not fit the vibe of what is otherwise an incredibly friendly neighborhood.
If you are looking for a late night diner, just go to Sunset Diner on Meeker Ave. Whether it's 2pm or 4am they will always greet you with a smile and make sure you are...
