Mannahatta NYC — Local services in New York

i've visited and bought from mannahatta a handful of times. they definitely have a deep selection for the brands they stock. however, my experience with the store is overall pretty negative.

more than half the time i'm in there, i feel a sense of antagonism from the staff i don't get at any other of the local japanese brand retailers. it's not a comfortable environment for just browsing—and as someone who's willing to pay retail price, that's kind of the main draw of a store.

my biggest complaint is that one time i was actually given the wrong sized item than the one i tried on and asked for. i compared a size 44 and 46 MMY piece, asked for the smaller size, and it was rung up. the receipt confirmed 44, but i realized way later (once i'd already taken the tag off) that i'd actually been given the 46. this was a fall piece i'd bought in the summer. this is kind of a wild error for the store to make, and by the time i noticed, the piece was already out of season.

i like to support local retailers when i can, but to be honest, it's hard to justify making purchases here if it can be avoided—personally, i would try to buy online even if i visited the store, just because the risk of getting the wrong product seems way...

Good selection of Kapital, FDMTL, and Maison Mihara Yasuhiro pieces to be sure. Were extremely strict with my time there (I got in 10 minutes early for a half-hour appointment, they tried shooing me 10 minutes into appointment time beginning even though I had booked the time slot), don't allow pictures, had slightly stringent rules regarding the cleanliness of the space, and generally had a vibe that felt like I was being held in contempt. It seems that this is trying to be halfway between a showroom and a store, and doesn't care about much other than the immediate cash in hand. Would not recommend after my in-person experience. Blue in Green has less Kapital selection overall but the experience was far...

Seen this super cute jacket online! Loved it! So I ordered it, delivery was about 5 business days.. but upon arrival the material was terrible the fabric was nothing like it was described in the site and the sizing was completely wrong!
