I have mixed opinions about OvRide. I think their website and the general booking is fantastic. I also think that the locations they offer are pretty amazing. The price to Catamount was extremely realistic - $200 for a lesson, rental, entire transport and the entire day lift ticket. But my tour operator was so mean, so I don't know if I'll risk taking OvRide again. I went on 3/18/23 and was picked up at 5:40am in Brooklyn. The bus seemed pretty nice and they were playing movies on the way. It was a really good crowd! Our tour leader seemed to be in a horrible mood/have some sort of attitude problem and was really mean to me over the course of the day. He gave me attitude when I asked him simple questions. He really disliked it when he had to repeat himself, I guess I understand but you're a tour operator so that's kind of the point. I definitely saw him rolling his eyes or getting super irritated with people and it was extremely uncomfortable.
Our return trip was where he got worse. We get to 70th Street in 2.5 hours and then have another hour to get to Union Square and Barclays Center. We're stuck in standstill at 42nd for an HOUR where we went like 10 blocks. I asked the guide if there was any other way we could go since we'd been at the same block for 15 minutes now and he got so mad at me that I even bothered to ask. Then I really just wanted to get off so I and a few other passengers asked him if they could just let us off right now so we could take the train. He says that's too stressful for him to think about right now. I asked again bc at this point he's making me uncomfortable and I'm stuck on a bus with him for another hour. The bus driver agrees to drop us off. I tell him and the guide we're ready whenever and wherever they can drop us. The tour guide gets even more mad at me and said, "This is a nice thing we're doing for you so you need to wait until I say that you're ready to go. You cant just come up here and demand it." ??????? After this experience, I just don't know if I can take the risk of literally being shamed if I take OvRide again. Otherwise the...
Read moreHave used OvRide twice this season, to Windham. It is an economic way to get to the mountain rather than relying on private transport. Overall I am happy with the cost and services offered. I found the guides to be well informed and friendly, and the atmosphere on the bus was pleasant and quiet.
What I do not appreciate, however, is the insistence of playing movies on the bus's screens when going back from the mountain. (At the last ride the movie was a children's animated movie with no interest to the 20+ year old passengers...) On both my rides I have noticed that none or very few of the passengers actually watch the movies and it becomes instead an annoying and disruptive noise to tired skiers who would rather rest and/or watch their own smartphone screens. So my suggestion would be to cease this practice and let the skiers get the rest they would rather enjoy! Alternatively, if indeed you have to show these movies, please choose something of interest, like a skiing documentary, or something to that effect.
On the bus itself, I found that it is comfortable and with a careful and experienced driver. What I would, however, have liked to see, is safety-belts for the passengers. I think this is important for a bus that per definition should be capable of transporting passengers on winter/mountain roads.
Apart from that I am very happy with OvRide and look forward to using you again the next skiing...
Read moreI see only positive reviews here (I saw negatives in other OVRRIDE locations, particularly East Coast), and I had also positive experiences pre COVID-era. I thought they were enforcing strict anti COVID-19 policies. But my experience in March 3 2021 to Wyndham made me think that it may not be a good idea to take a tour bus until COVID-19 is over.
The company reduced a capacity to 50% and no drinking nor eating is allowed. Many travelers are solo or a pair, and they were extremely quiet out of consideration to others. However, the company trip leader, Aiden, was only person who were talking so loudly over 1.5 hours to one group of guests. Even with a mask, there is a risk of spreading virus if you talk long and loud in a closed environment. I know several clusters happened by bus tours. I texted him and asked him not to talk so loudly, then his answer was “I was talking to guests to celebrate today, and talking is perfectly permitted” I asked several times but he did not stop talking. I was really scared. I can’t ask guests stop talking but I was asking the trip leader to be considerate to guests who might be worried about infection. I hope they can continue to run their business but train staff properly and enforce stricter COVID-policy. There was no hand sanitizer in the bus. I will postpone my trips...
