The single star isn't about the bakery's goods, as I haven't been there to try them; it's about manager Sara's response to a customer who complained about delivery problems with her order. But first, a compliment: As a retired public relations executive, I'd like to commend Sara for frequently skirting the issue of high prices at Breads Bakery, a topic mentioned in about half of the reviews. Better to focus on the compliments about the bakery's products, which is what she usually does, although a few times she does reply to the complaints about prices. And now to explain my single star: In response to one recent customer's complaints about how her order was completely botched up by the outside delivery company, Sara, you pretty much told her you don't give a hoot when you essentially requested that she not bother you with delivery issues and instead told her to get in touch directly herself with the outside company. Bad PR, Sara! What you should have done, to prove to her and other Google readers that you do care, is to assure her that you'll personally speak with the shipper and let the people in that company know that your bakery won't tolerate bad customer service! Such terrible service by the shipper reflects poorly on your bakery. In fact, I was going to order rugelach online today but after reading the customer's complaints about the delivery, and your curt reply to her, I've changed my mind. Next time I'm in NY, I'll stop in and shop personally so I won't have to deal with a slipshod...
Read moreWent to the Union Square location- lives up to its reputation as a go-to spot for artisan breads and delectable sandwiches.
We started with their sourdough bread to go, which is a standout. The slow-fermented organic sourdough had a perfect balance of tangy flavor and a chewy, airy crumb, encased in a golden crust. If you’re a sourdough enthusiast, this is a must-try.
The olive and cheese breadsticks were another highlight. And we also got croissant and palmiers were superhit. They were a fantastic snack on their own.
We sat and I ordered the egg salad sandwich. My wife ordered the roasted bell peppers sandwich with cream cheese on sourdough bread was the star of the meal. The roasted bell peppers were sweet and smoky, paired beautifully with the rich, tangy cream cheese. The sourdough bread provided a sturdy yet soft base that soaked up the flavors without falling apart. The combination was simple yet executed with such precision that every bite was a delight.
The staff was friendly and efficient, making the experience even more enjoyable. Prices are on the higher side, as expected for an artisan bakery in NYC, but the quality...
Read moreThis place could be perfect. The food is excellent, fresh, delicious. Potato babka is my favorite. They have savory as well as sweet pastries in the front and a to-go sit down area in the back where you can get sandwiches, salads, savory tarts and mini pizzas, coffee and tea.
So why only three stars? Because the service is terrible. Last two times I went I encountered a short skinny white guy with thick framed glasses and a hat who is so rude I had to bite my tongue not to tell him off. He does not want to help customers. I asked him if there was any soup left, and before I could finish my sentence he said a short disinterested no and walked away. Great, thanks! He's been like this before and since then. Total d-bag.
I asked another employee where the restroom was located and he half-assed pointed and said "take a right over there." Only I could barely hear him as he was mumbling and turning to walk away from me as he was talking. Where do they find these people and who hires them???
Such a shame because the food here is so good for a quick fix and healthy ingredients. Also some vegan options and many...
