UPDATED 8/3/22: Qiu reached out and rescheduled me and the follow-up appointment was perfect, so I’m back to being a loyal customer since 2019. ✨Added new photos! I’m in absolutely in love with the new nails, they’re so perfect!!! Exactly what I wanted. Shape 10/10 Thin application 10/10 ZERO pain from cutting or filing 10/10 Gentle handling 10/10 Understood my request perfectly 10/10 Improved time 1.5 hours Thank you Q&A for making things right! - - - - Previous review below (āļøāļø) This has actually been my go-to salon for the past 3 years, but I haven’t been for a while. My last appointment was just really odd, and I’m really unhappy with how my nails turned out! I went on a Thursday at 5:30pm, and they seemed reeeally busy. The whole appointment actually took 2 whole hours- I came out after 7:30pm. What I asked to get done: - remove gel extensions + gel polish - almond shaped French tips Cost was $62 plus a $10 tip (not inexpensive!) After the owner Qiu set me up to soak my nails in acetone + foils, after about 45 mins (and bless him, he was incredibly busy and was managing service for 4 customers while answering the phone and organizing appointments), he passed me on to another lady. I was just fine with that. However- her service was painful! I asked her to be gentle a few times and pulled my hand back when she would cut me, but for some reason she just kept filing my actual skin (see 3 cuts on my fingers in the first photo). And was really rough about rotating my wrist. She applied a solid color powder polish and right as I noticed she was going to seal it, I confirmed if she knew I was doing French tips. And she did not, she was surprised and then grabbed what she needed to do French (would’ve been nice for the request to be passed on if getting switched manicurists). She then applied the polish SO, incredibly, thickly! The polish was actually bumpy and not smooth? I asked her to thin them out three times, and she tried, but I think she just didn’t have a detailed eye- so I still feel like they look super odd. They’re still really thick (there are no tips added, just my natural nails). And the shape is definitely oval, not almond at all. My fingers look so wide haha. All in all, I actually really have huge respect for the owner Qiu and the salon, but this felt like a lacking quality team member. Looking at my nails makes me really sad, and I got them done for a special anniversary dinner that night, so I wish it was better. And now my otherwise healthy fingers need to heal from the cuts.

Today, I decided to treat myself to a gel manicure and regular pedicure. An experience that should have been relaxing was not! I decided to call ahead to make sure they could take me in. So they said yes come in. I was there super quick! I picked out my colors and the first lady took me in and did my feet first. Then when it was time for my gel manicure... I asked for gold stripe designs on my nails so there started the trouble... they switched out the calm lady to an impatient person who thought she could take over. Instead, she was having a temper with me because I did not like her design. She was probably cursing me out in her language. She gave me a one-handed massage with no love and wanted to leave my hands dry. I requested lotion on my hands like never have I experienced a place where there’s no lotion applied after a manicure. She’s buggn. She then started to be sarcastic with me I guess when the manager stepped in to see if everything was okay. I told the girl to stop and leave me alone. I told the manager I just want to leave and pay. I will never come back. I did see a few girls with nice blowouts here though but there’s like so many other nail places like the city that I rather spend my money somewhere else than be mistreated here.

I wasn’t going to leave a review and take my L in silence but today 4 days after my nail appointment, my gel polish chipped off. On Saturday I called in advanced to ask if they did gel, acrylic removal & if they wrapped nails which the owner said they did and to come by. I walked a half an hour to this place and when I got there they reveal they don’t do acrylic and insisted I do dip powder instead of gel. They specialize in dip powder but couldn’t communicate that rather deceived me to try to do what they wanted. I got a SIMPLE black French and each nail is a different shape. All uneven, lacking symmetry. A French is super simple work, basic nail 101 but again they did not deliver that. The gel polish there must be old or the artist that did my nails can not paint using polish because Each nail is bumpier than the last. The worst part was the ONE extension they gave me is a total mess and completely different shape then the rest. In my life of getting my nails done I’ve never had someone give me a rubber extension. Go here for super simple dip manicure but anything else…. I advise against.

I recently went here with a friend , I was getting a fill and a color change for my nails and my friend was getting a waxing done.

Leah who did my nails was super sweet and very nice , so I didn’t say anything when my nails were not filled in but just a clear coat on the bottom before the color was done, I was tired and had a long day at work so didn’t want to make a big deal even tho I was PAYING for a fill in and color change on top of a tip. I’m not too upset about the nails tho, im more upset about the wax my friend got and the attitude and body shaming my friend received. Waxing lady was named angel or Angela - and I asked that is the only person that does the waxing.

It took the waxing lady almost 2 hours to do a simple leg wax and underarm wax , and even with all that time my friends leg still had multiple parches of hair. She kept huffing and puffing and shaming my friend under her breath..why is that? Why are you huffing and puffing when you can’t do your job properly. As females and in this industry , you must see so many different types of bodies and so many different types of hair…why can you not do your job properly and then be upset at the person you are taking care of ?

To the owner of this establishment, please hire people that can do the job properly or have some classes for the lady so she can know what she is doing , because this might NOT be the job for her. To the owner as well, how are you okay with your staff shaming females when they are there most vulnerable and showing their body to get waxed ? I’m so shocked at what occurred at this establishment and with the waxing lady.

To Angel the ONLY waxing person at this establishment, shame on you as a female , shame on you, I do not welcome you in the girls community as girls don’t shame other girls. I’m not mad at you, I’m disappointed and truly hope you either find a career that you will excel in because this isn’t the one for you. You are an embarrassment to the Astoria and female community and truly hope when you go home at night you look at every single flaw you have , if you can’t think of any please contact me as I’ll be more than happy to provide you with a list...
