QB House Tokyo was recommended to me by a friend when I was looking for somewhere affordable to get my hair cut by someone who knows how to cut and style Asian hair. You definitely can't beat $20 for a cut (no wash/shampoo) but I worried about the quality I'd get. Much to my pleasure, my stylist did a great job and I (and all my friends) love the hair cut that I got!
The only snag was the fact that I needed to make sure at least 8 inches was cut because I was donating my hair, and they apparently did not have a ruler or tape measure anywhere in the shop. My stylist ended up needing to estimate and overestimate to be on the safe side. It ended up being closer to 12 inches, I think, but my hair was so long that I didn't find it to be that big a deal.
The shop looks super clean, and the stylists are very friendly and listen to what you are looking for with your cut. I was a bit worried when there were only men in there having their hair cut when I walked in, but they had pictures up suggesting they cut women's hair, too. Also, shortly after I sat down to wait, another woman came in to get her hair cut as well. (She also seemed happy with her cut.)
They have a cool system to indicate how busy they are and how long you should expect to wait, using stop light colors. I don't remember the exact numbers, but green means you shouldn't need to wait for much at all, yellow means it'll be a short wait, and red means you might have to wait a bit.
I'll definitely come back here (or one of their other locations) if I need my...
Read moreI’ve been going to QB house for almost two years now at different locations but had a terrible experience yesterday (april 9)- the male barber with a full head of hair took my cut (not sure the name but schedule says hiromi, takahiro, hiroshi and akko). I asked for what I usually ask for which is a two block with a 1 and light trim on the middle. He completely shaved my sides with a 1 which can be on me since I didn’t specify to make it gradual. The terrible experience begins when he’s done and asks me what I think. I tell him “oh can you trim the front a little more” and then he gives me some attitude and says “but that’s what you asked for!” so I say sorry but a bit shorter I think would be good. And then he visibly whispers “oh my god” and then, he doesn’t even wait for me to take my glasses off- he just aggressively grabs my hair and starts chopping at it. If I get a haircut that isn’t what I expect since I don’t explain it properly, I understand. But if a barber asks how the haircut is, I don’t understand why he got so angry over a small request to make a section slightly shorter? We weren’t arguing or anything during our haircut either and this attitude was very unprofessional. Judging from some of other people’s bad reviews at this location, it feels like they are probably referring to...
Read moreI have been wanting to get rid of split ends of my hair for few months but wasn't willing to pay $50 for a simple haircut. I was going to wait until I want to dye my hair so I can do the them together.
However, today I saw a sign that QB house opened up!! For people who might not know QB (=quick barber) House is very popular in Japan/asia and is know for cheap and fast haircuts. I was curious if it still kept its concept and is still cheap in New York.
I am really glad I went. You cannot get this quality haircut for this price anywhere else in NY. Here, cheap doesn't mean they do whatever with your hair. My barber asked me specifically what I want and made sure he had a quality result. He also checked with me several times if the length and style were okay. Honestly, I think its service and result are better than anywhere else I have been to in NY. For people who are curious about pricing, I got an inch trim at the bottom of my hair WITH layering AND a bang for $23+tip.
I don't usually write a long review but this place deserves one, because it's that good. I am definitely going back and bringing my boyfriend...
