I had a hot shave given by Mark, and it was amazing.
My beard covers my full face and is very thick. I generally use a double edge razor with Feather blades for my shave, followed by using TendSkin. What I am trying to get at is I take shaving very seriously.
That is why I can say Mark knew exactly what he was doing. This was his process:
Some sort of cream was rubbed into my face for 5 minutes. It was done roughly and you could tell the goal was to raise the hairs. While leaving the cream on my face, they then rubbed in warm shaving cream on top. Then they laid a hot towel on top of both the creams. The towel sat for about a minute. The hot towel was removed and the creams were wiped off. A new layer of hot shaving cream was applied. A straight blade razor was then used to remove a bulk of the hair Then he laid on more shaving cream and used an electric to clean up any rough spots. He would ran his hand over my face to find these spots and then attack them with the electric. Then he did a final round of touch up with the straight razor again. The final round is when he laid down some kind of liquid on my face (I think TendSkin from the smell) and used a cold towel to cool off my face.
I want to point out that I have seen other top barbers use the electric razor in step 7. My skin could not handle another full round with the blade, it would break out. The electric allows him to also apply more pressure against stubborn hairs. You NEVER apply pressure with a straight razor.
I also want to point out that his technique with the straight razor was perfect. He never applied a lot of pressure, his strokes were short, and he pulled...

You are immediately greeted by one of several friendly and professional staff members which asks you to take a seat as they listen carefully to fulfill your requests, while you sit back, ease into the chair and enjoy the relaxing yet upbeat club and house music playing softly over the speakers.
Rays Barbershop adds that personal touch, and will powder and wipe your neck down, and they will even offer a little product to complete your look.
prices are average for NYC but you never wait long and service is above and beyond for what you get typically at a barshop.
Ray's welcomes everyone, they are conveniently located just off of church street. A great Barbershop at a good price and very little waiting time.
Tipping in cash is preferred if you feel inclined to do so. Rays Barbershop is a neighborhood...

This is completely unacceptable.
On 01/23/2019 I walked into the barbershop at 9:30am. My barber was overall not a pleasant person at all.
I asked to have the back of my head cleaned up and to have my beard trimmed down to a 1, and have my neck cleaned up as well.
After being in the chair for exactly 8 minutes I was charged 24.00$ for this horrible work.
THEN as I was inspecting the work done in the mirror, I could hear my “stylist” talking about me with a serious attitude in another language, followed by another employee who was sitting on the couch asking me if “everything was alright”
I can promise you that I’ll never go back to this place as it is completely overpriced and NOT WORTH IT!!!!
As a LOCAL GUIDE I ADVISE EVERYONE WHO DOES NOT WANT TO GET RIPPED OFF TO STAY AWAY!!!
Edit: I am trying to upload more photos of my bad haircut, but they’re only letting me upload one. Message me privately if you would like to see the rest of...
