Well, first of all let me just mention that i've purchased from this target 3 times (yes 3 times and I am giving it one star) continue to read if you would like to know why I rated this target 1 star. At first I was highly excited that there was now a Target in Tribeca. I am a huge makeup lover ( I am a makeup enthusiast) and I absolutely love the makeup isles. I love to roam the makeup isles discovering new makeup products figuring out which products I am going to buy. Today, I went in target & was shopping for my mother buying her some makeup she told me she wanted for Mothers day. I had just gotten there so here I am trying to do a nice thing. I'm looking for my moms foundation color where the l'oreal True match foundation is and behind me is a security guard pretending to stock up makeup? I was not aware that the securities job was to also stock in the makeup isle.... (Yes he was following me to see if I was stealing when I was not! this was my 3rd time there and every single time I pay) and then I was in the bag section to get a gift bag so I could give my mom her gift and there he was again! what is the coincidence?.. It made me feel very uncomfortable because if you see I have the items and I am not hiding anything why do I continue to be followed? and trust me if the items were not for my mom I would have left everything there and left Target. Now, let me speak about the line. It is very unorganized and the workers purchase items there (which is no problem) however, when they are done paying they continue on amongst each other with their conversations and they hold up the line. Which I have to say is very annoying because there is an open register. However, the customer is not able to go to the counter and have their items rung up by the cashier because they are still holding their conversation amongst each other. Also, this target has more food rather than house hold items.. I was a little disappointed because I go to other Targets and they have a whole lot more and they are only one floor LOL! this one has two floors and just doesn't have a lot.. Well, I will not be entering this Target ever again due to my experience today. It's very rude for the security to be following people around when nothing shady is happening. We are customers and should not be treated that way unless someone was seen putting something in their pocket or hiding something. (Also, do not just accuse someone of stealing roll back the cameras that is why you have them DUH because you may just be accusing someone innocent and you'll lose a lot more customers) JUST AN FYI TO THE PERSON WHO MANAGES THIS TARGET. Please do a better job because I'm one customer you...
Read moreI've been shopping with target for many years. I had a negative experience at the Greenwich street location. I picked up a prescription with no problem and decided to purchase headphones before I left. In the electronic section, many things are locked up. So you have to wave under the sensor to get someone to come. No one was coming. Please forgive me, but I'm bringing up race here only because it is relevant to the story. I am a black woman. There were 2 other black people who decided to leave because the wait was too long. I went back and forth looking for someone to help.
A group of white people came to the electronic section and were helped shortly after worker came.
I gave the worker the benefit of the doubt because perhaps he didn't know I was there before all of them. I did leave the area for a minute looking for someone to assist us all. After they were assisted, myself and 2 white men were still waiting. The target employee turned to assist the white customer. I politely said sir, I was here first. He said "all I can see is a line". He proceeds to ignore me to help him . The other white man who was waiting said, "I'm after her". I'm grateful that he vouched for me. I told the worker i was the first on that line and the white customers there did not dispute that. He repeated all I can see is a line, even though I'm explaining I was there first. He finally assisted me and thanked me for my patience and I explained to him that yes there is a line which i was first on. I didnt want to give the impression that I was skipping. If anyone looked at the cameras, they can see i was there before the others came. I left the target in tears.
I work retail as well. I know how stressful it can be. I feel that it could have handled differently. I hate to bring up race because not everything is about that. It just gave a bad impression to go to out the way to help white customers before the only black person who was there first.
Now let me be clear. This worker isn't psychic and would have no way of knowing that I was in the electronic section first and I did leave looking for a worker. I have to be fair and mention that. I have no issue with helping the first group because he didn't know. Once I said sir I was here first, he could have assisted me before helping yet another white customer before me. I'm thankful to the white gentleman who vouched for me and said he was after me. I'm thankful to the manager who assured me that she would look into the situation. I'm leaving out names. I don't want any worker to mistreated as we all make mistakes. I just didn't shop at target to...
Read moreI was racially discriminated at this target and guarantee I will never shop at this location again. I’m a black man and I recently moved to Manhattan and this is my local Target and was in making a big purchase and as I was walking out (with all my items in target bags) the white boy security guard with the non-connecting beard jumped in front of me and demanded to see my receipt… I was shocked because this has never happened to me at target before. I asked why and he said “it’s store policy.”…. After working at Target throughout all of High School and partially through college and knowing Targets guest centric culture I know for a fact this is NOT their policy. I stated I threw my receipt in one of my multiple bags and wasn’t about to dig for it. He incredibly rudely stated that I didn’t need to “make a big deal” and then continued to mumble under his breathe. As I was in the vestibule waiting for my Uber I counted 15 people walk out and not one was asked for their receipt and coincidentally none were of the same skin tone…. I called to the store and asked to speak to the Assets Protection Manager or Store Director but neither was available but I spoke with the HR Manager instead and said she’d address the attitude with him but she spoke with another Manager and confirmed that “random receipt checking is store policy”…… when I told her to review the optics of the entire scenario and then give me her thoughts she was silent. I am honestly shocked that happened at a TARGET of all places albeit not shocked the one in Tribeca given how terrible in general this location is. I’ll still be completing a CSAT with intentionality to bring this to the Store Directors attention because I genuinely refuse to believe that Target has a policy of spot checking receipts of one random black customer….
UPDATE 2-24-2023: Frank the Store Director reached out to me and we had a very nice conversation where he asked me to walk him through what happened and told me he’d follow up with me after he does his own internal conversations (rightfully so) as I was the first person he had spoken to and that he’d follow up. He followed up with me about 4 hours later and I won’t go into the outcome of the conversation but I’m satisfied for Frank’s leadership with looking into and addressing the situation and how it is...
