Only giving 1 star because the studio is [aesthetically] gorgeous and the girl at the front desk was very sweet and, to be fair, the instructor was the main problem, not the studio itself. I do pilates at several different studios around the city EVERY WEEK (def not a beginner) and wanted to try Real Pilates for the first time.
The teacher I had was named Nina and although I think she was subbing in for someone, I still felt the need to leave this review because of how surprisingly negative this experience was for me. Not only did I find her not particularly well-trained and her instructions very confusing rather than clear-cut and easy to follow, but when the class was confused as to what to do because of her bizarre instructions, she had a way and tone of speaking that was pretty rude. Again, I do pilates a few times a week and this is the first time I quite literally felt targeted by the instructor as she would constantly speak condescendingly to me or come near me practically every time to fix my posture by being quite rough with my body. The friend I had with me noticed and saw how uncomfortable I was. She even singled me out at some point in the class, in front of everyone, and loudly asked if I had ever even done this before to a rowing exercise that quite literally was not an accurate rowing technique.
At certain points I literally wanted to clean my machine and get up in the middle of class. Again, I would have loved to try out this studio and love it so I'm sad that I probably will not be able to give this place a fair shot. If I wanted to pay 36 dollars to get bullied by a pilates "teacher" I would have gone back to my PE class in...
Read moreIncredibly authentic to the art of Pilates!! Favorite Studio !! I am a Super Fan!! I originally studied pilates in the 1990s as a professional dancer I was fortunate to study with instructors that had studied with Joseph Pilates. So when I was looking for a studio in NYC - I had great expectations and Real Pilates is The Real Deal! This studio inspires me so much! I found this studio looking for a place to restore my body after being injured at my job. Physical therapy wasn't enough! I am so happy that I was able to train for a few months before having Neck Surgery- Disc replacement and I look forward to coming back to rebuild my body!! Every instructor brings a wealth of insight and techniques. Kisa is an amazing trainer that brings gentle strength to her sessions. I booked Kisa for privates sessions. I enjoyed how much I learned and how much my body was so happy after my sessions! Jen is also an incredible intuitive trainer that I look forward to her classes. The training program is stellar in itself and I look forward to working out with the new trainees!
The receptionists are super sweet and helpful! I love that Real Pilates provides an oasis to all the New York City stress that affordable and fun loving. And they have studios around the world!!! go check out their website...
Read moreYumi has been a blessing for me, both pre + post natal. I met Yumi when I was 5 months pregnant, and stayed with her until it was too hard to move. Not only was I able to continue doing Pilates (albeit with a lot of modifications), the stretching + relief that Yumi built into my sessions would change my entire day, especially towards the end of my pregnancy. Post-pregnancy has been an uphill battle for me + Yumi has helped me build back my strength with the utmost patience. Her constant attention to my form has not only made me stronger but has more importantly helped me avoid any sort of injury! Which any new mom can appreciate!
And without fail, with each + every session Yumi greets you with the biggest smile! Her energy is just the best and after each session with her I always feel stronger, more relaxed, and simply happy! I look forward to continuing with Yumi for as long as she...
