I booked a two hour makeup class with Romana recently. Her instagram showed that she works with all types of women, so she was my top choice for this service.

She was very quick to respond over email, which I was impressed by since I was just booking a lesson, not a big event. Before the lesson, she asked me a lot of questions about my skin type, the types of makeup I like, and the setting I am in most of the time. I shared some pinterest boards with her and we scheduled a time and place to meet.

Romana was very friendly and nice to work with. She made me comfortable and she had clearly spent reviewing the images and information I gave her. I brought my own makeup bag and she brought a lot of products for me to try as well.

Some of the most impactful things I learned were: (1) better technique for foundation and concealer application (2) better technique for eye liner application (3) where to apply contour and blush for my face shape (4) what kinds of colors and formulas work best for me (5) how to prep for makeup with good skincare (her tips really helped!)

However, the thing I was most impressed with her telling me which types of products to invest in and which types can be more affordable. For some products she had specific recommendations (which I was very happy to take and have all been really good buys), but for most she was more concerned that I learn how to look for the right colors and textures than any specific brand or shade, which I really appreciated.

She helped me go through my own makeup box and showed me how some products could serve more than one purpose (a blush in the right shade can be an eyeshadow, etc), and seeing how she approached that was my favorite part of this experience. She really is an artist who does makeup and it's changed the way I look at makeup in the store and apply it at home.

If you're looking to get your hair and/or makeup done, I HIGHLY recommend Romana. I had a black tie event the other day and was desperate to find someone to do my hair and makeup and was so lucky Romana was able to see me last minute. She is truly a professional and my makeup stayed on perfectly until the next day!! My hair also stayed up and slicked back throughout the whole evening, my hair and makeup survived lots of dancing and sweating! I never really wear makeup and told Romana I wanted something more natural but still noticeable, and she nailed it and exceeded my expectations. The makeup was so professionally and beautifully applied and all of her products are very high quality, and lots of variety! Romana took her time and made sure to check with me to see how I liked everything after each product she applied which I really appreciated - no surprises! I've also had trouble in the past with hairstylists giving me updos, and I have to say Romana is the only person who has ever given me an updo I wanted, just a simple slicked back bun (it ended up looking just like a picture of Bella Hadid's hair that I showed for reference). Romana is such a sweet and fun person and her studio and set up are beautiful! Romana is super awesome!

I was really picky about the makeup style, and since I’m Asian, I prefer to go with Asian makeup artist given they would know better our face structures. There are quite a few in NY but I couldn’t find one I like and had looked for months. Until one day I surfed the internet as usual, and randomly found Romana (I listened to her youtube talk where she talked about coming to NY for achieving dreams). I like her instantly (as I also came to NY to chase my dreams) and she was super responsive. For the trial, I had to travel that day so I was late for over an hour but she and her hair stylist partner (Michael) patiently waited for me at the lobby till I arrived. She was also very accommodative and flexible around my wedding schedule. She is also super nice and have zero attitude, listened to what I wanted and always willing to help out. She arrived before 6am on the wedding day (and she did make ups for my moms and bridesmaids) then she came back in late afternoon to do my touchup.
