Roosevelt Island — Local services in New York

If you haven't visited the little island in the middle of the New York's East River than I highly recommend you pay it a visit, especially if you're a visitor to the city looking to experience it's wonder and beauty. The island is the absolute best place to catch a view of the New York City skyline treating you to views of both Queen's Long Island City, Manhattan's gigantic architectural marvels and Brooklyn's developing high-rises. You arrive 300 feet below the island's surface— to put that in perspective that is 1/3rd the height of a Manhattan skyscraper. So, of course there are many, many steps to contend with but they also offer an escalator which allows you to see just how tall the stairs are taking you up. It's a wonderful place to spend an afternoon or enjoy a lunch....

It’s a rather interesting station with perhaps the longest electrical escalators in the entire NYC system, it’s monumental riding it in itself. The station’s colors are unique in the system too and it’s rather pleasant to see, but the station’s idiosyncrasies and particularities derived from its location do confer a slight claustrophobic feeling on it: if it elicited such a feeling from me who is not claustrophobic or anxious at all, I can’t imagine what it may educe from someone more fragile perhaps. I surmise knowing you’re on the bottom of the East River can evoke a slight spark of disturbance in even the bravest daredevil. সত্যি বলতে আমার দেখা সবচেয়ে সুন্দর সাবওয়ে হচ্ছে এটি অর্থাৎ রোজভেল্ট আইল্যান্ড সাবওয়ে স্টেশন।

আমি আমার বন্ধুর সাথে জিদ করলাম রোজভেল্ট আইল্যান্ড দেখানোর জন্য সে সহ আমার আরেকটি বন্ধু তার গাড়ি নিয়ে রেডি যাওয়ার জন্য। আমি তখন জ্যাকসন হাইটস্ বাসায়।

রওয়ানা দিলাম রোজভেল্ট আইল্যান্ড এর উদ্দেশ্যে, রাত তখন প্রায় ১.০০ টা বাজে। আমার বন্ধু বলতেছে এখন গিয়ে তো বেশিক্ষন অবস্থান করা যাবে না। কারণ, ওইখানে প্রচন্ড ঠান্ডা বাতাস, তারপরে আবার অনেক রাত্র। এতো রাতে তেমন কিছুই দেখা যাবে না। আমি তখন বললাম দোস্ত, চলো যাই, আমার রাতের ছবি দেখতে অনেক ভালো লাগে তাই আমার যাওয়া লাগবে, চলো।

অবশেষে চলে এলাম, সত্যি বলতে অনেক সুন্দর লাগছিল। যা না দেখলেই না। সামনে থেকে ম্যানহাট্টান সিটি দাড়িয়ে আছে খুবই সৌন্দর্য্য নিয়ে যার তুলনা খুবই কম পাওয়া যাবে সারা বিশ্বে। রোজভেল্ট আইল্যান্ড থেকে ম্যানহাট্টান সিটি দেখতে অনেক সুন্দর, তা দিন হোক বা রাত।

রোজভেল্ট আইল্যান্ড এর পাশে ব্রিজ এর কিছুটা কাছাকাছি হচ্ছে রোজভেল্ট আইল্যান্ড সাবওয়ে স্টেশন। যার কাছে যেতে ৫-৬ মিনিট সময় লাগতে পারে। দিকটা বলতে পারলাম কারণ পুরো ইউএস জুড়েই আমি দিকভ্রম অর্থাৎ সেখানে আমি দিকদর্শন হারা একজন হা..হা..হা..পূর্ব পশ্চিম বা উত্তর দক্ষিণ এর কথা আমি বলতে পারি না। তাই এভাবে বললাম।

তবে এতটুকু বলতে পারি রোজভেল্ট আইল্যান্ড সাবওয়ে স্টেশন বাইরে থেকে যতটুকু সুন্দর তার চাইতে ভেতরে এটি অনেক সুন্দর কারণ এটি কয়েকটি স্তর বিশিষ্ট যা অন্যান্য ষ্টেশন এর তুলনায় অনেক গভীর এবং কয়েক তলা বিশিষ্ট ষ্টেশন। এর মধ্যে এস্কেলেটর এবং স্টেয়ার সবই আছে।

সবচেয়ে সুখবর এটাই যে এ ষ্টেশনটি এক্সেসিবল অর্থাৎ ডিজেবল লোকদের চলাচলের চিন্তা মাথায় রেখে এ ষ্টেশনটি বানানো হয়েছে। আসলে বলতে গেলে এ দেশের প্রায় সকল স্থানই এক্সেসিবল করা তৈরি করা হয়ে থাকে। যা আমার চোখে পড়েছে তাই বললাম। এই ব্যবস্থাটা আমার খুবই ভালো লেগেছে।

এক্সেসিবল কিনাঃ হ্যা, এখানে ডিজেবল লোকদের জন্য চলাচলের সুন্দর ব্যবস্থা আছে অর্থাৎ রোজভেল্ট আইল্যান্ড সাবওয়ে স্টেশনটি এক্সেসিবল।

হাইলাইটেড বিষয়ঃ রোজভেল্ট আইল্যান্ড সাবওয়ে স্টেশনটি অন্য সাবওয়ে থেকে সম্পূর্ণ আলাদা, বড় এবং খুবই সুন্দর মনে হয়েছে আমার কাছে।
