Going to be honest here, I came here to service my bike and started to notice a trend. At first it was something very simple and the technician was able to do the job relatively quick which was to replace a specific part. After the replacement the technician did mention to me, that he strongly recommends a "tune up". At that moment I didn't get a tune up because i didnt have the time. After leaving the shop, that quick replacement slipped and because of it i got injured and i decided to take the bike for a "tune-up" thinking it might resolve the issue. brought the bike in for a tune-up. After the "Tune up" its been straight up a headache. Left the location and then came back, addressed that I'm having an issue after the tune up. Tech once again does some work, takes my bike and goes out for a really nonchalant ride half way down the block, and comes back, says everything is fine. The tech mentioned that I should allow the "work" or "service" to "break in" and see what happens. I did so, the issue was present after 3 weeks, I came back addressed the situation, tech worked on the problem, made some adjustments, but it still didn't fix the issue. I decided to go to another location to get another opinion. They told me to replace another part and I went ahead and did so and the issue was resolved.
Came back here once again after another small issue, similar to the previous issue that i had before with my bike. The technician was quick to fix the issue and took less the 5-10 minutes to resolve the original issue, but i could sense he knew that there was a different issue present that he failed to mention( i could see it and "hear" that there was an issue present and im sure he knew it too while the tech was getting ready to give me back the bike while servicing it, you literally could hear the clanking but the tech ignored it.). I came back to address that the quick fix needs a better adjustment, the tech did so and this time he addressed the issue that he failed to mention originally or he neglected it carelessly. So to be quite frank and blunt about the situation, I'd REALLY appreciate it if your technicians are upfront with EVERYTHING they notice and mention it to the client before the client leaves after a quick fix or a service. I have gotten injured multiple times already because of your "quick fixes" and failure your to mention or address to me "OTHER VISIBLE or NOTICEABLE ISSUES PRESENT". Why do I have to continuously keep coming back to point the issues out and you guys just shrug your shoulders, and then recommend a replacement part or service? It's really starting to hurt my wallet, and its frustrating that you guys nickel and dime every single problem and lets not forget me sustaining minor physical injures to myself after your failure to mention or address the other visible and noticeable issues.( thank god only minor injuries sustained)
I work as a technician as well, and I would never allow a client to be unaware of potential dangers that may be present that could really get them injured and hurt. This is very unprofessional. It's really kind of surprising as well because I see people with really expensive bicycles come here and get them serviced, and i starting to wonder to myself if I'm the only person experiencing these issues. Based off my experience so far, i have not enjoyed coming back multiple times to this location to address these issues, who knew a $15 quick fix would cost me $300+, very upsetting. Boycotting this place from now on. prices are over the top as well for service and...
Read moreOne of the best bike shops in the tri-state area and I would say I've been to more than 70% of them. Very fair prices and quality service before and after the sale. Well stocked inventory, which is rare these days considering COVID shortages, as well as bicycle shops not stocking as much do to online sales. They're more of a "everyman's" bike shop and carry most every type of bicycle from mountain, road (including many impossible to get racing models), gravel, touring, comfort, casual, folding, kids, bmx, freestyle, etc. You can outfit the whole family. They carry all the major brands and many of the better, lesser known brands as well. One gripe I have is they need to update their website to better reflect their broad selection of bikes and accessories. Another issue is they are often busy because this is the most popular shops in Brooklyn and possibly NYC. If you don't like waiting, go early in the morning, or on a weekday, except Fridays. Parking isn't easy but there's always something on the other side of Coney Island Ave. They don't play games with motorized bicycles and only carry models that are legal in NYC. They give great recommendations, in fact the best advice I've gotten from them is when I asked for a lock, they advised me not to buy one because my bicycle was too nice to lock. They could have sold me a lock but didn't out of concern for a good customer. Another time, I bought a bicycle online and I broke the rear derailleur hanger. It wasn't replaceable and the online store said they couldn't help me. They took the time to find the supplier and had it fixed and didn't charge me anything even though I didn't buy it from them. Yes the store can get messy, but if they're busy doing nice things like that, I'll take the mess. They take the time to fit their customers, and explain the gears, even for my 11 and 9 year old. Best of all, the free service means free for everything except flats. Everywhere else it's only brake and gear adjustments. Although accidents aren't covered, I was told if they can fix it, I would only need to pay for the parts, not the service. Great shop and highly recommended! Update 2/2022- I was there today and I still have to say that they're the best.
Update 5/30/24 - still the best bicycle shop in NYC. What impresses me most is knowing that they genuinely care about their customers and the community. We need more people like them...
Read moreRoy's wonderful repair people saved my beach day last Sunday.
I had a flat on Bedford and Church on my way to FT. Tilden. A nasty curved piece of glass penetrated the side wall. So even though I have tire liners it made no difference. I pulled out the little dagger BUT it turns out a microscopic piece of glass embedded itself in the EDGE of the tire saver ( a one in a million chance, the edge of the liner is 1mm, maybe) and blew up my only spare tube.
I pushed the bike through 175 degree heat to Roy's. I bought 3 tubes so I would have at least 2 spares. They even let me change the tube in their wonderfully air condition service area because I was such a sweaty mess by the time I got there.
Not only did they show me a great time saving trick on mounting the tire/ liner/ new tube, but when they saw the SORRY state of my tire ( I was waiting for a new pair of Thick Slicks to arrive that I bought from Amazon with reward points) they gave me a slightly used Continental tire so I could safely get where I was going. THEY GAVE ME A TIRE!!!. I asked if they had Thick Slicks in my size, unfortunately they didn't, because with that kind of dedicated service I would have bought a pair right then and there.
I was able to still enjoy time at the beach and made it home no problem. My new tires arrived yesterday so I will be bringing back the tire they so graciously gave me so they can assist another cyclist in need.
Talk about good Samaritans.
While I was there a father and his young son had brought the kids bike in for a brake and a new chain. The chain was fine just a little orange with rust. The serviceman said that he could clean it instead of replacing it and it would probably be fine. He did not try to up sell the guy a new chain etc.
Again that kind of honesty and dedication, you think it was a Church run bike shop or something.
I have only had service done there so I can't speak to sales but I'm sure this is store wide attitude, not some random act of ' good service' I will make it a point to give them as much business as possible.
PLEASE do yourself a favor and check them out. They are above and beyond!
