I think there are some really amazing trainers at S10, but I had a terrible experience with the service/management at the gym.
I've been trying to convince my husband to switch gyms and come here. He signed up for a class to try it out and they were running over 30 minutes behind. He signed up for a 10:30-11:30 class and had a meeting immediately after, so couldn't stay for class that was now going to start after 11am. They told him it "typically starts 15-20 min late for future reference" and he didn't get a refund (he didn't ask for one but this still baffled me). This class definitely seems great and the scheduling apparently works for some people but I find this a wild way to run a business.
I originally left a 2 star review right after an experience at the gym that was very upsetting to me. It was not kind or constructive. I said "great trainers but management is horrendous and the space isn't that nice. they shouldn't describe themselves as luxury". I thought it would prompt a phone call and to discuss the way I was treated but instead, 20 minutes before my next workout, I got an apologetic note from my trainer that due to the review I was not welcome back to the gym. For a business owner to handle bad reviews this way speaks volumes about the type of establishment they're running. I hope this is more constructive, as I should have been from the start.
FYI The space is subterranean and doesn't look nearly as nice in person as it does on the website...
Read moreI have had personal training experiences in the city before. Both at private gyms and also at bigger chains like equinox or Chelsea piers.
When trying to schedule an initial meeting with a trainer, the way it works was very different than what I’m used to. There weren’t really any questions about my goals or what I’m looking for, just a list of information on pricing and my timing availability.
I think they must be doing well because they are quite busy, but I didn’t really like the initial process of setting up something and how cold and impersonal it felt. It’s definitely cheaper than other gyms in the area, including my current gym, and that was something that I was 50/50 on. I thought perhaps they had the scale to charge a bit less but provide decent service, but it just didn’t feel “custom”...
Read moreS10 is great, I’ve been going for over a decade probably. Stephen is an extremely intelligent trainer (despite not knowing my waist size), plus he’s WAY older than he looks - so you know he’s doing something right. Unfortunately, he has a terrible accent, but it’s easy to ignore that when you’re focused on staying alive during 5 sets of very heavy...
