Never again....
This is my third time in this place. The first time they did a Great Manicure and the second time a great pedicure. Because of those good experiences I made an appointment for mani and pedí again.
I went in for the appointment and they started right away, which is good. I told the lady that I wanted a callus mask, she gave me the menu for pedicures. I choose one and she started to do the pedicure. Tina, was doing a good job until she unplugged the chair.
First if I am paying for a very expensive job, I want to use the massage chair for the whole time I am seating in the chair. The lady unplugged the chair when I started the massage the second time. She stated it was because of the UV/LED machine (weird because they didn't do that to the lady that was seating next to me) well it that moment I knew that the extremely expensive service was not worth it. After she unplugged the chair, I spend 30 more minutes seated in that chair. I guess that they charge extra for the chair even if you are getting a service that requires to be seating in that chair. Yeap, Incredible ! In nowhere in the menu or the Salon, anywhere! says that you can only use the pedicure chair for 20 minutes, even if your service is for 50 minutes.
After she finished with the pedicure ( it was good, that is why the 2 stars) we go to the nails table. She didn't have almost any instruments and they were not sanitized. She started doing the most sloppy terrible Manicure that someone have done in anyone's life ! I can't even believe that I paid almost 50 for this awful Manicure.
The "Manicurist" didn't know that the nails needs to be clean! she needs to remove all the dead skin and clean everything around the nail. When I saw she was not doing her job I specifically told her to please clean the dead skin that was visible from 10 blocks down. She laugh and said yes yes, but she didn't do it !
If I wanted to only paint my nails, I would it done that at my house! Not paying a 50-dollar Manicure that now I need to go tomorrow and fix it! to another place ofc!
In my entire life someone haven’t done to me a so poor job. I paid $123 for both services. It was more expensive but because I was going to pay cash, they gave me a 10% off . I gave her 5 dollars for tip, in my mind I wanted to give her 0 dollars for the awful job. When she saw that it was only 5 dollars, she looks at me like that was not enough tip and when I was leaving, she screamed to all her co-workers that I only gave her 5 dollars for all the work she did. She was showing the invoice and the 5-dollar bill to everyone at the salon, co-workers and clients. Tina, let me tell you that you don't know how to do a simple Manicure and please learn some manners. Unbelievable that this place is charging so much for a Manicure that my 5-year niece can do much better. Don't waste...
Read moreKudos to the Starry Nail team for what is probably the best nail salon in Brooklyn Heights. I am a regular customer at another salon in the area but found myself needing a mani in a pinch (my usual spot didn’t have availability). Starry Nail has an incredible selection of gel options (lots of nudes!) in a very clean environment and the tech did a good job with the polish. I am not a fan of the shape (trim and filing) style that she did, however. I asked her for a natural oval style (my nailbeds are very long and I have practically no white at the tips unless I grow them significantly past my fingertips, so this is what my nails naturally look like even when short) and she cut them straight across, working under my nails to separate them from the flesh and rendering inconsistent shapes across fingers. It was an uncomfortable feeling and the result was closer to a squoval, which I didn’t care for. Perhaps with additional guidance and repeated visits they will get my preference, but it was not an immediate knockout job in the shaping department- it made me wonder whether she was even capable/knew how to shape them differently, which is why I didn’t request a correction. That being said, the polish looks fantastic still with only a very minor chip after two weeks and she didn’t overfile or transfer heat to my nails, which my usual tech elsewhere sometimes struggles with. The pricing is well above average, but the quality of the polish and how long it seems to last may...
Read moreThis spa was clean & friendly. I was able to walk in for a gel manicure removal (hard gel) and did not have to wait, which was great especially on a weekend. However, the drill-off process was a lot more aggressive than I have experienced at other salons, and unfortunately I realized once I left that my nails had never been more damaged in my life.
I've had several hard gel manicures before and have never once had this issue when a nail drill is used to take off the polish--my nails were so flimsy afterward that I had to go home and immediately cut all of the length off because they were tearing halfway down the nail bed (ouch!). I would have appreciated the manicurist asking me if I was comfortable with the amount she was taking off before it happened (i.e. a hair stylist wouldn't agree to bleach your hair if they knew it would all break off right?).
It's been several days now, and my nail beds are still extremely sensitive/in pain due to how thin the nails are + the places where they tore. I know it's going to take a couple of months for all of this to grow out, so I can't say I recommend this salon all things considered. It was obviously a very inexpensive service for them to provide ($15 + tip), but I wish that the quality was higher as expected especially given the location in this...
