The Buchanan — Local services in New York

We have lived here for a few months now and here is what I can say about the building. They promised all of these fancy new amenities like a gym, bike storage room, new courtyard etc.. NONE of it has even started yet and it doesn’t seem like they will anytime soon. We were promised $75 a month for a gym voucher while the buildings gym is being built but once we signed the lease they refused to give us the voucher.

Secondly, the apartments look awesome and have great appliances such as washer dryer, stainless steel and marbel kitchen but all of these appliances are just covering up the old rotting building. Behind the appliances you can see how old and damaged the building is. All of our ice cubes have green and blue specks in them because of the old copper piping the fridge is connected to. The washer and dryer also do not work properly.

Lastly, we recently came home to our apartment and saw numerous rats (not mice) run around the apartment and hide in our rooms. We keep the apartment perfectly clean and always throw out our trash down the shoot.

Avoid this complex at all costs. We will not be...

I just want to say how incredible Luis, Ibrahim, and the rest of the staff of the Buchanan are.

Here's a story: late one evening, a pipe under my bathroom sink broke and water started spraying incredibly fast everywhere. I immediately ran downstairs and Ibrahim and Luis sprinted up to my unit. They managed to shut the water off and honestly averted a serious crisis. Then they helped me mop up all the water as fast as they could so it didn't seep into the unit below. They even took one of the wet rugs to dry downstairs. These guys are just the best! The entire staff at the Buchanan are like my family. I've been here for over 10 years and it's heartwarming how much they all care. I can't imagine what I would have done without them. Any other building, with any other staff, and this could have been a complete catastrophe. Thank you Luis...

While this building is beautiful, it is important to know that you DO NOT have ANY control of the heat in your apartment. If I had known this, I would never have rented here and I'm already looking for a new apartment for when my lease ends. It is absolutely freezing in my apartment and two neighbors today have described their apartments as "frozen" and "arctic". Complaints are addressed by a maintenance call where the maintenance man comes in and tells you the heater is on and nothing else is done. Today I'm working from home in my coat and gloves and two pairs of socks. I'm writing this to warn others - if I had this google review to read, I would not be in this situation right now. Way too much money to spend to be living uncomfortably...
