What horrible customer service from the College Point, NY He Depot. I made an online purchase and selected the option to pick up my purchase at the store. I received a call from the store and missed the call. The voicemail I received was a five minute message of employees just socializing in the background. Which is interesting because when I called back I was immediately placed on hold by customer service rep Colletta. After being on hold for 11 minutes I was disconnected from the call. So I called back. I was then placed on hold for another 10 minutes. Colletta then finally came back to tell me that they did not have the item in my order. She was offer to sell me a lesser item. I asked several times if the order could be transferred to another store that had the product. I received no answer to my attempts to get an answer to the question and was placed on hold for another five minutes. At the end of the five minutes my call was once again disconnected. I called back again. This time I asked to speak to a manager. I got Ashante. She placed me on hold for a few minutes and explained to me that my order was cancelled. At this point I was extremely frustrated. My order was cancelled and I would receive my refund in 3-5 business days. I became upset and expressed that to the store manager. Her response was that if I was going to get upset then she couldn't help me. This comment made me even more upset. I finally calmed down and asked how she could help me. He solution was that she could sell me another item at which point I would need to pay additional money to Home Depot. At this point I was just interested in filling a complaint with their corporate office. I called the 800 number. In his defense, the customer service representative at the 800 number was very nice. His told me his name was Cheddar. But Ashante and the College Point staff had messed the order up so much that there was no way I could get my products that night without paying Home Depot additional money. I explained that at this point I had lost my patience and refused to pay another dime to Home Depot. So I declined. I got up at 6 a.m. the next morning and went over to Lowe's and received excellent customer service. I was in and out of their in 30 minutes and found everything I was looking for at excellent prices. Thank God there was a competitor in my area that valued me as a customer and was able to help me. I had the worst customer service experience at this Home Depot at College Point. I purchased an air conditioner online from this store on June 19th. It was delivered to my home on July 1st. It was too noisy so I decided to return it. I called up customer service online and they told me I can return it within 7 days. I brought the air conditioner to the College Point store on July 5th. The customer service rep told me since I purchased it on June 19th, they cannot accept this return. I told her that cannot be correct since it was delivered to my house on July 1st, which was already more than 7 days after my purchase online. There was no way I knew I wanted to return it if they count the 7 day period starting on my purchase date instead of delivery date. In short, that was an act of impossibility on my end. But the customer rep was very uncooperative and refused to listen to my reasoning. When I asked to see a manager she also denied me of that, claiming the manager could not help me. Instead of trying to be helpful all she wanted to do was wave me away. She was making all kinds of claims, for example she said I had to call the delivery company, which made no sense at all. I finally had to call customer service online again on the spot and they confirmed that I was correct and they spoke to the store's employee to get my return processed. This store canceled my order without any notice and then outright refused to fulfill it for delivery for over a week—without providing a shred of explanation. The situation caused me significant financial losses and endless stress.
I reached out to the Home Depot Customer Resolutions Department through their website, but even they struggled to get in contact with this store and understand why the order was canceled without notice. That alone should tell you how poorly this location is run. When I tried calling the store directly, I was placed on hold indefinitely, and when someone finally answered, they refused to give their names and made zero effort to resolve the issue.
This entire mess started because of this store’s incompetence, and yet they have shown no accountability, no professionalism, and no urgency to fix the problem. Their lack of communication, refusal to take responsibility, and dismissive behavior are completely unacceptable.
